- 1977 CJ 7; Amc 401 .30 over, Howell TBI, modified Dana 20 with Terra Low gears and twin sticks, NV 4500 5-speed, modified Dana 30 and Amc 20 both with 4.56 gears (narrow track), ARB air lockers front and rear, SSBC rear disc brake conversion, MICO Brake park brake, Navaho brake booster/ master cylinder, PowerTank CO2 tank.
I run the same set up, ARB, 4.56 gears. The wear pattern looks like the pinion depth is set to deep to me.

It might be best then to take it apart and inspect bearings and pinion, to be sure.

- 1979 Jeep CJ5 with 304 V8, T18 Transmission, Dana 20 Transfer case with TeraLow 3:1 gears, 4.88 axle gears, Detroit Locker up front and Ox Locker in back with 1 piece axle shafts, 36" SuperSwamper SX Tires, Shackle reversal, MileMarker Hydraulic winch, MSD 6A ignition.
I wouldn't worry about the carrier. That seems to be fine. If the pinion bearing went out it could damage the ring and pinion gears. Then during the repair you want to make sure the PO set up the gears properly.
I would look over the ring and pinion.

everything looked ok the gear mesh was right in the middle of the gear. you can almost see it in the pix

no guys thats rust from sitting for 3 years without more than a 1/2 cup of oil
its the carrier, i think the PO blew out a pinion bearing and it [pinion gear] fell into the carrier. what do u think??
I see marks on the carrier. Your pinion has to be loose.
