CJ7 4.2 Overheating Problem

CJ7 4.2 Overheating Problem
sorry forgot to attach the picture! here it is!

Your fan and pump don't match for flow direction.
From the driver's seat-Your fan has to turn counter-clock wise(left)to pull air into the engine bay.
Your w'pump is made to turn clock-wise(right)to pump water through the block from the rad.
You have the wrong pump--

i don't think so man. my fan does rotate in the counter clockwise direction when sitting in the drivers seat. but that is the direction that the water pump i posted is supposed to rotate.

I just put in a new water pump, 180 thermostat and a new temp sending unit in my CJ5 ,, AMC 304 V8. everything now seems to be fine. runs steady at about 195 degrees. the only thing that concerns me is that the hoses are pretty hot to the touch . I dont have a shroud(next on the list) . Should I worry about the hoses being hot ?

OK then-Take the PN of your WP, and compare it to a reveres rotation WP then.

I may well have mis-read your pump's direction of rotation.:o
How long have you had that rad in?

195* is to hot to touch.
Top rad hose should be hotter than the bottom hose.
How do you know your sending unit is correct to the gauge?

I did know that but i checked the new pump rotation to the old one and it was the same! how do i know if the old was even the right rotation though? the fan rotates in the clockwise direction when looking at the front of the car!

i meant it rotates clockwise looking at the grill from outside the car! so it rotates counter clockwise when sitting in the driver seat! sorry for the misunderstanding.

That pump rotates counter clock wise looking at it from them front of the Jeep.

I guess I don't know........ other than I told them at the parts store the year of jeep, model CJ5 and a AMC 304 V8. The sending unit they sold me was the same as the old one ???????

I did the test to check the temp gauge and sending unit by pulling the wire from the sending unit and grounded it to the engine. with the key turned to the on position , engine not running, the gauge pegs out hot. So they say its time to replace the sending unit. I replaced the sending unit and it stills pegs hot. Does that mean the gauge is bad, the wrong sending unit or ????? Should I go with a mechanical Gauge ?

So now it's not over heating and it's just a bad guage?

Believe I said to NEVER-EVER trust any OEM, Jeep gauge.
Ask me how I learned this----
