Vehicle(s)
1970 cj5 134-4cyl (tub off frame and back on, suspension done(2.5 " yj spring lift),assembling engine now) after engine goes in steering upgrade to saganaw.
searching the web i have found that clifford makes a header for the 134, they claim 20-25% increase in power, is this true? they seem quiet expensive(about 300.00).
is their another option?
i would really like a little more power out of this 134.
thanks

For a small low output motor like a 134 20-25% more is quite a bit of an increase.. I call bs on it. I am not the master 134 person but seems like a lot to me.

Clifford claims a lot of stuff that isn't so. I bought an intake for my stroker from them and was very disapointed with the results and the workmanship. Also took 6 weeks for them to ship to me. It's the result of soninlaw taking advantage of his fatherinlaws hard work after he passed away.

What distributor did you go to?

I had a homemade/homebrew header on mine that fell apart.
I bought a Clifford header for my 4 banger back in 1981 or 1982.
Cost $200 bucks if I recall back then.
It exited inside the frame and I never did like it.
I solved that problem by installing a V6 a couple years later.

Well lets look at the simple math. Your L134 "Go Devil" Hurricane makes a whopping 72 horsepower. If you would gain 20% ( which I dont think is likely, maybe 10-15 tops) your at 85 hp. If your looking for any type of noticeable increase that little 134 needs to go.

After all you screen name is buzzinhalfdozen , not buzzinthirddozen. :)

I second that. I had a 2.5L low output in my YJ I had years ago. After lifting it, putting on 33" tires, it wouldn't get out of it's own way. Then I put a 350 in it.

Haha! I didn't even catch that one...good call! :chug:

Buzzinhalfdoz, I see you have 10" wheels, your problem might be what you have mounted on them. A lower set of gears could help here btw.

Just for S&Gs, go over to Power Block TV and watch last weeks Horsepower episode, They show how to build a 4 banger for dirt track racing and other uses. It would be very expensive, but huge horsepower and revs up to 10,000 rpm. Not a solution to your question, but gives you an idea of what you can do with a 4 banger. Rod

i have not drove it yet, just bought it, it has 31 x 10.50s now. and i think 4.88 gears.
i just want all the safe power i can have and not start breaking stuff , just use offroad occasonaly.
in past v-8 builds(muscle cars) i think a well tuned and blueprinted engine might make 20-25% more power than a untuned engine of equal size. i dont have to have a lot of power just maximize what i have.
ps- engine due back from machine shop next week, cant wait...
pss- my buzzinhalfdoz handle is from driving a cummins pickup for over 400 thousand miles and still going...( i am a v-8 guy at heart)
