Clutch Clutch Linkage

Do you have a body lift, by chance?
Can you post a picture of what you mean by “2 inches too short” ?
 
I’m not 100% sure, but I believe that bell crank was a bit shorter in early generation CJs, like up to ‘75.
Maybe you have one of those?

The original on my ‘86 is 9” +/- long.
 
'76 and up used a different bell crank (OE part # 5360104).

The '72-'75 is shorter (OE part # 5351292).

At a glance without measuring you can also tell the difference between the two because the grease zerk fitting is in a different position relative to the "arm" on the one end as well.

And then the even older '66-'71 is a lot different (OE part # 941232).
