The main purpose for this post is that I have finally taken the jeep through the mud and got to play with it off-road. My problem is that of I'm going through water or it splashes up under the engine bay it will sputter and die. Sometimes start right back up seine have to let it sit.

Second problem: I'm assuming problem one has to do with the ignition system (have the dreaded prestolite). I've read and read and read till I can't anymore from jeep hammer to the Miscellaneous. I'm leaning towards the motorcraft swap. When I do this all I need is the motorcraft distributor and should I use the ford motorcraft ignition module or an aftermarket. And how do I go about wiring to avoid the first problem. Picks for y'all's enjoyment. Took a while to get out but no other way to spend my birthday

Nice pics, looks like fun. From what I understand, the Ford Motorcraft ignition control module is long out of production. I would recommend a higher priced Echlin brand from N.A.P.A. or an even more expensive upgrade of the MSD unit. Until that happens you could secure your current distributor and its connections with a silicone sealant, I am sure JH covers this. For the distributor, a reproduction from Crown will work, you can get those from places like 4WD Hardware.

When that happens-Lift the dizzy cap and look for condensation inside the cap.
Pretty common ;)
When the last time you replace the wires cap and rotor?
Don't go cheap here-Get the brass contacts in the cap.

Like Lumpy stated when you install the distributor cap use the Team Rush upgrade which is using the larger Ford Cap with brass contacts, taller rotor, and adapter for the cap. Another option for the icm would be using the GM ignition control module also found in the JunkYardGenius web page which is called the "Stealth HEI".

I've been reluctant to change the cap and Dutch. New plug wires and spark
Plugs. The carbs a little out of tune running a little rich.
That's where I get
Confused on which distributor to buy lol Ibe confused
Myself with sonics reading. I'd rather have a brand new
One rather than remand.
And btw best day of my life. So much fun!

Do you still have the horseshoe connector on the coil? Those are notorious for wet miss firing issues.
Get a new coil with screw terminals and hard wire the 2 leads using crimp on ring terminals.

I went and bought the motorcraft distributor from a 79 jeep today. i was looking into wiring the gm hei control module in but confused the :dung: out of me. So now I'm looking into the msd 6 series, going to order on Wednesday (seemed much easier to wire in) my question, does anyone have the wiring diagram for the msd module and the motorcraft distributor. Ordering cap, rotor and new plug wires as well. trying to make this a one day smooth transition if theres anything else i need (connectors and such) or advice anything is much appreciated.
