Dana 20 strength
I put your numbers in for the crawl ratios. We're not trying to discount your ability , just covering the bases. Around here you can get a good used Dana 300 for $200.

I know you guys are being helpful. Which is why I asked. I appreciate it. I apologize if I seemed rude. That's a pretty good price. I'll definitely look around for some Dana 300 's.

Good choice on gears.

We have no way of knowing your background. So many folks what to do alot of things to their rides, and have no clue of what's really involved.
I grew-up in the hotrod world. Just look at the history of Hot Rod City and Wilcap in Torrance, Ca. I work'd there and went to scool with the owners kids. It was a great learning experience.
Respectfully,
LG

Oh, yes. I know you guys don't know my background. And like I just said to Pete, I apologize if I seemed rude. I wish I grew up with hot rods. My dad had a YJ. That's all I grew up messing with. Taught myself how to weld and work on my own Jeeps. Then eventually went to college for an associates degree in 'Automotive high performance' in which I actually got to build engines, do all the machine work on them, built complete tube chassis. Dyno'd engines and cars. I enjoyed it.

It is addicting, ain't it. LOL
Did much of what you have when I worked for Donovan Engineering. We built sprint cars and tested them at Ascot Park in Gardena. We also spent some time at Lyons Dragstrip.

It is very addicting lol.

We mainly did dirt modified's. The school actually owns their own dirt track. It was pretty sweet.

And that's awesome. So much engineering in those aluminum blocks!

Now that we know you are serious ... :) ...

Dump the Fiat (Chrysler) and go with a real American icon. A man with your skills could do a lot with the bare canvas like a CJ.

Hey now, TJ's weren't fiat yet! Lol. And I have an '88 YJ, and a '79 CJ5 as well. (AMC 304 /T-150 /Dana 20 ). I'm working on the CJ currently. ;)

CJ5 ... well that's better. Not a Fiat, Daimler then :)

What is going on with your CJ? We love to hear about CJ's, pictures are always nice. Pictures of a CJ that is. ...... Just foolin' with yea ... well mostly anyways.

Well you know what they say about Fiat, 90% are still on the road----------
The other 10%, made it back home. LOL

Nothing major. It's driveable. I drive it pretty regularly. Did the team rush upgrade, modified a front Warn YJ bumper to fit it, got some 33's. Redid all the steering linkage (stock for now), M.O.R.E. steering box mount and steering box brace. Borgeson heavy duty steering shaft. My buddies dad is giving me some wide track axles and a scout front 44 for $50. Have some YJ leafs I want to put on it. Have a brand new frame for it(still need to swap it, just dreading the body mount bolts). New (to me) windshield frame from an '86 CJ7 (waaaayyy better condition than mine. Have a new windshield for it sitting at work. Got a new (again, to me) dash with all gauges and wiring from the same CJ7 . (None of my gauges work other than speedo, and the water temp gauge that I replaced, and my wiring is a rats nest from the PO.) and have a 20 gal gas tank I want to see if I can fit. Future soon purchases, gas tank skid (depending on if I can get the 20 gal to fit, will decide which tank I get the skid for), twin sticks, novak's little sump plate dealio for the Dana 20 , heavy duty steering, Prly buy a DIY kit. And depending on how much wider the scout axle is than the wide track CJ axles, a full width kit from daves customs unlimited. I'm sure there's more on my list, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head lol.

Lol that's a good one. I haven't heard it before.

I'd stay with a gear driven case like the 20 or the 300 if I wasn't rich enough to spring for the Atlas... and I'm not. Like the other guys said, throw up a photo so we can see this machine.

AFAIK, there is no factory driver's side drop Dana 300 . You can flip it, but that creates a bunch of other issues.

The Bronco version of the Dana 20 , would be fine, but there are much better choices. As long as you are willing to pay the price. The Ford version came in two different ratios depending on year: 2.34 or 2.46. To get lower gears, AFAIK, your only choice is the 3.15 TeraLow kit.

Are you stretching the CJ5 's wheel base? You're already a bit longer, drive line wise, with the NV4500 added. There isn't going to be much of a rear driveshaft unless you consider a stretch. It sounds like you are building something a bit more extreme, so I'd be looking into a 10" (or so) stretch by kicking the rear axle rearward.

And if you are stretching, then why not go to the Mac-daddy of all transfer cases: NP205 + doubler? Here's one for sale in Michigan: 203/205 doubler - Great Lakes 4x4. The largest offroad forum in the Midwest You're not going to blow that one up with a blown late model hemi.

Are we talking a pic of the CJ or the TJ? Lol

The hemi/NV4500 are in my TJ. And yes I am stretching that. I'm stretching the body to LJ length, and doing another 4" wheelbase stretch on top of that. Haven't really thought of the NP205. Is that gear driven as well?

The CJ has a AMC 304 /T-150 /Dana 20 .

From what I'm reading, none of the 203's will hook to my nv4500. Mines a dodge with 29 spline output. From what I've read, all the 203's are either 10, 27, or 32 spline inputs.
