My Dana 300 'is leaking from the rear where there is a plate with 4 bolts and metal shims underneath but no gasket or sealant. Would an easy fix be some RTV here? What is the correct way to fix it?

Mine is doing the same thing and I tried RTV and it didn't work so I'm looking forward to seeing what others have to say.

Are the bolts tight?

That was the first thing I checked.

Make sure the oil is not leak'n pass the bolts.

RTV on the bolts? Maybe that'll work.

Not RTV-I use Aviation Form A Gasket on the threads. ;)
Same as I do for water pump and head bolts.

For me, gear oil was leaking past the bolts. RTV on the bolts fixed it!
