can anyone have better luck then me with finding the electronic wiring for the gauges and switches for the 78 CJ5 ?

do you have a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual?? They both have wire schematics. The Chilton's is a bit larger print and easier to read , I think.

This is NOT a contest!! I refuse to let my overly competitive nature enter into this activity , at all! I can get a little carries away.:wtf:
Frankly I don't know why you don't have a lot more thanks then you do, you share some pretty good stuff. People are just polite to me because I'm old and senile. You know, " Thanks old man , now be a good sport and go in the other room and watch Laurence Welk."

guys, ANY early CJ5 did NOT have those square indicator lights. they are only on 3rd generation CJ5s

no, I just like gauges better than idiot lites
get more info from a gauge than a light going off

I like gauges too. My rig has "Autometer" 2 5/8's mechanical liquid filled gauges.;)

But it still has the little rectangular indicator lights.

do you guys have an after market fuel gauge?
I was thinking about some kind of sexy gauge change but it was going to be too much hassle to match the fuel gauge to the sending unit. Most of the after market fuel gauges are for rice burner sending units, that narrowed the field a lot.

I had a trick fuel gauge in my old CJ2a , a yard stick.
I was going to try "Autometer" to match my other gauges.
I've seen them in other Jeeps.;)

I run an autometer aftermarket fuel gauge to match my other gauges. You just have to match the gauge to the sending unit.

Thanks Wilurb63, and OI for the info on the rectagular dash indicator lights. I agree those rectagular lights are not necessary and is one more set of things to quit working on me, but I need them to fill those rectangular holes, since I have a new dash with those pre-cut. :) The picture near the beginning of this thread shows my old dash and new dash.

Now I see the plan:eek:

I replaced a set of those about 15 years ago when the only ones available were about $10 each, that hurt. for 30$ a set you can fill up the holes almost as easy as useing duct tape.:D
