Stock AMC 232 i6 6 cyl with some kind of homemade adapter so that it can mount a 14" aftermarket air cleaner on it. A couple of times I have started my engine and it just spews gasoline from somewhere all over the engine compartment. It will kind of surge for a while then stop completely. When I open the hood there is gas everywhere. I'm assuming that it it coming out the top of the carb because there is so much of it I don't know where else it would come from. I'm talking a lot of gas here. I go back, start the engine, and it purrs like a kitten. No leaks anywhere. Both times this has happened it has been sitting three or four days. Never happens if I have been driving it regularly. I'm going to guess it is a stuck float, but that is just a guess on my part. The only thing that has me a little stymied is that there is never any gas in the aircleaner, however it sits a good inch over the carb because of the adapter.

It might be a stuck float the best thing I can tell you is let it sit 4 or 5 days and before you try and start it open the hood and have someone watch to see where it's comming from with that much gas it should be easy to see. And a side note please be careful you don't catch it on fire.

Wear safety goggles too! If it shoots all over, you'll probably get some on you.

Yep, sounds like a stuck float valve. Probably time for a carb rebuild.
I bought a rebuild kit on Friday. I'll go from there.
