Yep, finally snapped the left rear axle.....I mean snapped this thing, darn wheel fell off. Anyway, thought about replacing the axle with a new two piece and then I came to my senses...spend the bucks, and get it right, and make it last. Anyway, I have searched till I'm blind trying to make a decision on which set of axles to go with....Here's where I hope some of you will chime in. I have the QuadraTrac with the GM Turbo 400 Automatic....1976 year model CJ7 . Anyone have any links to the best price/correct one piece replacement axles? I appreciate any help...Rick :chug:

Thanks guys! I just ordered the CJQ axle set from Moser Engineering. Should be here by Friday....$315 shipped. Yea, that hurt, but I'm so glad my local Jeep buds got on my arss.....came close to just replacing the left side with a new two piece. When I broke it, I was in 2 wheel high, going up a grassy hill, purposely spinning my tires, but not really much on the throttle.....guess I was maybe showing off a bit, and listening to the 360 and flowmasters..... Anyway, maybe I can do that ( spin a little ) with the Mosers and not have to worry....:D about the rear axles anyway, but hey...they break....and we just have to fix em! :chug:

You should be good to GO now. :chug:

Just out of curiosity, just where did it break? Usually they tend to break on the long side near the pumkin. I have also seen the woodruff key shear.

Do you have a stock carrier? that lokka is a great unit and the new axles might cause more stress. i learned the hard way, my new axles became fancy granade pins:D

It didn't break anywhere near the pumpkin, it was way out near the hub. The brake drum, hub and wheel were still attached. When I jacked it up, I simply slid the brake drum onto the brake shoes. I then backed the jeep up onto my trailer( maybe 15 feet total ), keeping a little pressure on the brakes, and it all stayed in place. I never thought this would be possible, but its what one of my Jeep bud's suggested, and it worked.....:chug:

Yes, the carrier is stock except for the LOKKA. I guess any time we do any upgrade, something else is susceptible for failure....Danngit!

OP-I suggest you also order a spare set of seals and bearing to have on hand.

1. What were you doing to make the axle snap?
2. Please excuse my ignorance, but THE WHOLE WHEEL FELL OFF?!?

Moser or Superior, good products... Just be sure to put the bearings in correctly.

Superior went out of business. I've got Superiors in one Jeep and have a set of axles without bearings or seals to go in the other Jeep. Dang bearings and seals cost 1/2 what a new axle kit costs!

Moser's are USA made.
Superior wasn't------

I've put a lokka in my AMC20 last spring and ended up stripping out the hub splines on the driver side 2-piece shaft the other weekend. Took it as a sign to replace with 1 piece shafts from Yukon. Haven't given them a good test yet, but it has to be better than that 2-piece design! I don't think the jeep engineers anticipated the extra torque a locker and 33" tires would add to the axles back when my jeep was built.

Bought the Moser's for my rebuild. They came in very quickly and included seals & bearings. My mechanic was impressed with the product and he's been in the business for a long time. Good luck.
