Good eye! :chug: I never enlarged the pics so I didn't notice the 'Jeep vs 'Jeep'. :notworthy:

Wow! Haha... So if it's a 76+ tub, technically that opens me up to a number of other options, no? Anything that would fit a 76+ tub would work for me? Damn... I'm thinking I probably need to take some pics of the frame... The only thing from 74 might be the sticker on the dash and the plate bolted to the firewall...

From what I see in your pics you have a 74 frame.

Is the frame boxed (1976 and up) or is it open channel (1975 and down?) The current hitch you have is 75 and down. It's easy to put a 76+ body on a 72 - 75, just a few body mods... ;)

Three giveaways on that tub tells me it is not a 74. Knowing that

What makes me think it's a 76 or 77?

But wait, There's more! :) Tell me! I won't be able to sleep tonight wondering...:chug:

Noticed few things right away. The trailer hitch is stock jeep for a '74. The seat mounts are 76 and newer. There is no tool box, all evidence says 76-79 tub. The dash is correct for a '74. Didn't notice the windshield right away, but you guys re right. The text thing is a very cool good eye, but my '75 has the lower jeep text. '75's are a little odd though..

Don't forget tailgate is 'Jeep' not 'Jeep' and another tell on the frame is the Transmission skid plate is pre 76. ;)

Edit: CJ, you got it brother! Plus no reverse lights, and incorrect taillights.

WarEagle don't think we are picking on your CJ, many CJ's have had newer bodies swapped onto them. I's very common to see YJ tubs on CJs also.
The only reason many of us can spot these things is that they have been around CJs for a long time. :chug:

I'm not feeling picked on!

I'm ready for the wealth of knowledge y'all are going to drop on me. I'm already impressed.

I seriously want to know more about what makes my '74 not a '74!

Thanks for the info so far and I'm anxiously waiting for more!:drool::drool::drool:

Well, another thing as Posi pointed out the dash is pre 76, that is why the 75 and down steering column bolts up. Also note the windshield hold down knobs not latches.

So when did they go back to knobs? Or did the 7 and 8 always have knobs? I know squat about the 5s so this is very interesting stuff.

I thought the knobs looked too new when I bought it but I didn't do enough searching to know for sure. I wanted to keep it as close to original as possible but knowing what I know now... I'm flexible! There is some rust at the rear and the plan was to cut those panels out and weld in new ones... should that still be my plan?

Jeep switched to knobs in 1976.

Never-ever seen a '7' that didn't use knobs.
CJ-The last year of the latches was 1975 then?

Just about any repair panel can be found here -->> 1976 - 1983 Jeep CJ5

They are about the best around and made right here in the good old USA, :us: :patriot:

Yes, and they are getting harder to find. I actually prefer them over knobs as you can really crank down on the windshield. :)
