ignition coil question

Hello again.

Coming out from my ignition coil I have three wires. A green one and then two red ones out of the same terminal.
One of the red wires has been disconnected from something. I can't find it to save the life of me.
Now looking at a drawing I found it seems that both of the red wires go back to the key ignition. The green one to the ignition module.
I haven't put gas to it yet and so far the engine turns over well with the key.
I have put in a new solenoid, starter and battery. I checked the distributor and it seems very clean and the rotor seems to move when put power to it. I also put new plugs in it.
I guess my question is, am I correct in assuming that the second wire goes back to the ignition. If it does I guess I am going to have some fun trying to find it. (knowing I won't I will likely have to get some help in)

Should I try and put gas in the carb at this point to see if it fires?
I have the gas tank disconnected right now because it needs to be changed and I don't want bad gas getting in there.

Jeff, One of those red wires does go to the ignition, and makes a few stops along the way. It also looks to be a bit large for an oem item, which is a good thing. The other is for a noise suppressor in the form of a capacitor, it is not necessary, but will smooth out the ignition from spikes. You could check for 6 volts at that positive coil terminal, with the key on just to check the ignition. You could also check a spark plug to see if it will light up. A further ignition check would be in the M.R. 252, factory service manual.

Do you have a tach?
That other red, POS(+) lead you speak of should go to the "I" terminal of your starter solenoid.

No I don't have a tach.
I've ordered an FSM but it is on backorder.

Gert-Don't think so for the 6 cyl.
What year chart is that?
It does show you to be correct if it was an 8cly. That's why I ask the year for the diagram.
The capacitor lead on my '85 was a black wire and was attached to the coil mounting bracket.
