Just bought more axles Dana 30 and 44 out of supposedly an 86 CJ7 and a Dana 300 for my cj7 project (money pit). I thought they were wide trak, not! I hate being new and having to learn at times ,gets costly. now I have 3 sets of axles and 2 300 transfer cases. anyway the 44 has some sort of locker in it and I am trying to find out what it is. The sides opposite of where the pin goes through are flat. it has some orange springs ,i think 2. any ideas?:) i would post a picture if I knew how, sorry

Thanks

thanks but nope that's not it. I'll try to get pics up now.

Wow it worked.:chug:

It looks like a mini spool. The lack of outer couplers makes that obvious, but mini spools dont have springs.

At the same time, I dont know of a lunchbox locker that doesn't have outer couplers.

It's definitely not a full locker either...

Im stumped.

Edit: Im going with some drop in lunchbox locker with internal couplers that Im not familiar with...
:D

Sounds good to me. Im trying to find out if should stay or go with another lunch box type due to insufficient funds for now.

Are you thinking of replacing it with a different style? If it functions ok I would just run it. :chug:
But that's just my opinion. I've ran lunchbox lockers in my CJ for years now and have no complaints

I don't know for sure yet I really would like to know what it is and if it's worth a darn . If it's o.k. I can use that money for something else, like a front locker .

Weirdest lunch box I have ever seen, there are no coupling devises...

True. The ends of a lunch box locker should have toothed pieces like the pictures.
Maybe a spool like what CJim7 was saying.

A spool with only pins or springs connecting th two halves? They would shear in a heart beat!

Im really stumped on this one. Im leaning towards lunchbox because of the springs....mini spools just dont have them. But I cant for the life of me identify this as an auto-locker because it has no couplers....and if there are, they are internal and not very big at all.

But mini spools aren't solid either, they use a thrust block (of sorts) and Im wondering if this is something else....

Booneman, you need to remove this thing and take it apart for us. Take a bunch of pictures and post them here. Some of us are going to lose sleep over this one until we identify it! :D

That looks really close to it to me.
