MC2100 Stiff Accelerator Pedal

Hello!
FNG here, I appreciate all of the knowledge this forum has to offer. I searched and didn't come up with anything that is relevant to my weird situation. I recently acquired a clean one owner 86 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , stock except for an MC 2100. It runs good but my problem is the accelerator pedal travel is very short and it takes a lot of effort to depress the pedal.
Any advice or guidance on how to free up some travel and/or make it easier to push would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Find out just where the problem is, like is it at the pedal, the linkage, or the carb. Maybe start by disconnecting the carb and operating it with the engine on or off to check for binding. From there you can check the linkage.

That's what I was thinking too. Or, you may just have a very stiff return spring, or your accelerator cable may be too short.

Take some pics too, pictures always help.

The first thing I looked at was the return spring. It didn't seem too stiff. I read about the V8 cable and thought I'd asked before I went that route. I'll dig into it and try and post up some pics.

It is all about the length and angle of the throttle pitman arm. when the cable can pull the throttle 90 deg. without running out of swing find a spring that will just pull the throttle closed.

That was it. Problem solved!
The throttle linkage pitman arm was connected too close. There's three holes in the linkage and it was connected to the closest hole to the pivot. I moved it out to the hole furthest away which created more leverage and now it's smooth as budda!
