Oil pan bolt problem

This is going to be one of the dumbest queastions I've ever had to ask. I have a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l in my 80 CJ5 . I need to drop my oil pan. The only problem i have is one bolt. It's on the pass side about half way down the motor directly under the motor mount. I can't get a socket into it. And i can only get the bix side of an end wrench. But there's not enough room to turn the wrench. Please tell me you guys know a trick to get this bolt out without having to lift the motor out.

Ah i see the confusion. I just ripped out the chevy 350 about 3 months ago. I put a bone stock AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight six with a 2100 carb. I haven't updated the vehicle stats since then.

I just don't want to have to tow this thing 40 miles to the garage were my picker and heavy tools are. Just to lift the motor to take out one bolt! There has to be a trick I'm just overlooking. And I'm hoping one of you can help me with what it is. Thanks

Support the engine and remove the motor mount.

I used my engine hoist to lift the engine slightly, that allowed me access to the bolt with no problem. I did not have to unbolt the motor mount. There was enough give in the rubber mount to allow this.

Btw thanks for the suggetions. I'll have to see if i can get my floor jack and a block of 4X4 to work at lifting the motor. If not i gotta pay the tow guy a hefty fee.

I haven't done it myself but I've read quite a few times in my past research about having to do as the others suggest, removing the motor mount after jacking up that side of the engine.

Thinking it over, I now remember removing the motor mount, not just lifting the engine a little bit with the mount still attached. It's been almost 25 years since I removed a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l oil pan while still in the vehicle. Senior moment I guess!

Touché missed that somehow. I be jacked the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l up after removing the motor mount. Kind of a pain but it does work.

next time use a crows foot, save the time.. snap on, mac tools, even craftsman tools. but a shaved down universal is the real ticket.

The purpose here was one of the nuts of the EGR, which are hardly accessible
at the AMC V8...
