You may want to loosen the 3 fuel filter's hose clamps and twist the fuel filter so that the return line is at the 12 o'clock position and the feed line is at the 6 o'clock position. Return line should be on top.

Thanks Posi - would this explain why I have to start on ether so much and it cranks hard like it has no fuel, then runs FINE once it's fired up and runs for a min?

Got a lot more done this week.

Fixed my exhaust doughnut and stud issue.
Isolated brake issues to what appears to be a bad proportioning valve. I'll swap that this week.
All the new 31s are on.
AMC20 tubes welded.
Floor pan and bed pan panels patched.
Front receiver welded on.
Front 1" shackles ordered.
Carb tuned.
New fuel pump.

Whew...

Well my brake light switch has come loose under the dash and now I have brake lights that never shut off. Mine has the earlier setup where there's a metal flange with an insert that the switch screws into. I'm going to scrap this setup and go with a pressure switch. I'll post some pics of what I come up with.

It was quite a weekend. I had the buddy who's heading to Colorado and JunkYardGenius over at my house this weekend to get this Jeep ready to ship.

We fixed the dragging brakes by removing the vacuum reservoir from the brake system. I was getting too much vacuum and for too long. It would release the rears until I was on the gas and at lower vacuum.

JYG came up with a micro switch solution to my brake lights so I wouldn't have to brake into my finished brakes. It sits on the vacuum booster mount and is actuated when the brakes are pushed.

I also isolated the issue with my full time FWD or e-drive. Diaphragm was good! Apply side vacuum was not. I'm running all new vac lines and running the e-drive off the vacuum reservoir so I have plenty of power to hold it in regardless of engine rpm etc.

Lastly the engine was re-timed and the carb set better. Starts easily and will throw you back in the seat.

All that's left is to finalize the replumb of the e-drive and tidy up a couple of loose ends. Otherwise it's ready for Colorado!

Finally - my QuadraTrac E-Drive is working like new. I ran a vacuum line off the reservoir straight to the E-Drive switch in the glove box, then replaced the existing vacuum lines to the QT and now my vacuum gauge reads about 20+ and it's all devoted to the E-Drive so it shifts in fast and it s t a y s there...

Will change the oil tonight, using Lucas Magnum 15/40 and Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I also ordered a Spectre air filter that should be fine for what I'm doing.

Got the oil and filter changed and installed the new air filter and fixed my brake warning light. All buttoned up and ready to head west!

so, now you are tying the brake booster directly to the manifold vacuum??

Yes. It's back the way it was originally. The booster is dual diaphragm so the extra vacuum was actually a problem. This setup keeps the edrive locked in good regardless.

I'm near Colby KS and I just had a couple from New York in a JK slow down beside me and take pictures of my CJ then ride up beside me and give me the thumbs up! Hope they are heading to Ouray as well....

I don't have a top but I do have good rain suits.
