Build Thread Project " Un " Limited
Well I just spent a little time down in the 21 degree garage. I had to jump the battery for her to turn over in this cold after sitting a couple weeks. Theres an oiling problem in the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , It took a little for it to quiet down after I started it.
Ive been planning what I want out of this Cj for a little while now and thought Id share the game plan.
ENGINE:
Originally I wanted to build a Cj with a monster stump pulling Pontiac / Buick 455. I had a thread up about it and recieved enough info that made me decide this wasnt where I wanted to spend my money. Once I ran into this Cj Limited it was aparent that wasnt going to be the case.
I'll be keeping the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and giving it some upgrades. I need to go over it a bit , but I believe a rebuild is in order. Im going to look for an intake for a small cfm Holley , Team Rush it and be done with it.
Transmission / Transfer Case :
This is pretty much going to be the heart of my build. I want a nice low crawl ratio and heres where Im going to get it. Ive been dreaming of a T-18 for a long time. After some more research Ive decided on a SM465. Coupled to that will be a Dana 300 . I'll be going with a 4 to 1 kit in the Dana 300 . While its going to cost more than the purchase price of the Cj this is where I'll get the performance Im looking for.
LIFT /TIRES /AXLES:
This is probably the most perplexing area of the Cj for me to build. The lift will be an Old Man Emu 3 in. lift. The tires will be the best 33in Mud Terrains I can get at the time. Id like to leave it open that 35s will fit with a little love. The front Dana 30 has always been a pretty decent axle for me so I'll add a lunchbox locker and upgrade accordingly. This Cj wont see snowy driving conditions
I'll probably dump the AMC20 for a Ford 8.8. Doing that right away will save me from just going to it later. Id be happy with a lunchbox locker in the rear as well.
BODY / INTERIOR
This is an area that will set my Weekend Warrior apart from some others. Im going to go with the "Limited " theme and inorparate it into my build. The color will be Silver Mist. I'll be keeping the the original wheels and interior along with the hardtop painted body color. The windshield frame will be black like its supposed to be. Im hoping to save the original seats as well. No more rattle can jobs , this ones for real.
