removing the roll bar

I have never removed the roll bar on my CJ5 , never had reason. but as I was looking at it this evening it does not look like you can just unbolt and lift. Is there any trick to it or does it just look like it is "built in"??

ive taken mine out a couple of times, but i have a glass tub. i have to squeeze it together with ratchet straps to get it to fit out.

Dont know for sure on a 77 but my 82 just unbolts and lifts out. You just need torx bits. Infact if you havent dont so in several years I would recommend everyone removing it because moisture can get under the mounts and cause really bad rust. Better to catch it early.

Unbolt everything and remove the spacers on the sides between tub and bar, leave one side in place and "spring" the bar together and lift out the one side past the tub. 2 people makes it easier but it does come out with a little effort, the fun starts when you put it back in and have to get those spacers back behind the tub.

Removed mine on my 68' CJ5 . Mine didn't just lift out either. I had to use rachet straps to pull the rear bars in a bit to clear that lip on the upper rear of the tub. I just wrapped a strap around the base of both rear bars and racheted until the rear of the roll bar was pulled in a bit, then it lifted right out. What are the spacers you guys are talking about? Mine didn't have any spacers that I know of. Here's a pic of the roll bar I pulled out. It would definately be a good idea to pull it and repair any rust before it becomes an issue. Mine was rusted through underneath the roll bar mounts up front/floor boards.

Yours aren't in anymore or maybe you have a glass tub and was not drilled for the side bolts? The spacers are between the body and side flange of bar.
