Here's the deal. '86 CJ7 Laredo . Wanting to line the entire interior, but I don't want "Bomb Proof" or "Super Durable". A thicker, softer mix would be preferred. Any suggestions for brand and/or composition? Advice in general? Nothing won't be appreciated. Thanks

I guess I don't understand your thinking. If you are going to all the trouble of lining the inside of your tub why would you not want something that is "bomb proof or super durable"? Do you what to have to redo it evey few years? I would think you would only want to have to do this once and never look back.

Another option is like I have. My interior is rhino lined but then it also came with full carpet from the PO. You get the durable lined and the "comfort" of a softer interior. As a disclaimer I would not put carpet in my jeep but I'm not going to take it out either.

We have not done the CJ5 yet but I did the old bronco about 12 years ago with Durabak. The old stuff is pretty abrasive but it wears like iron and was one of the best things I ever did to the 'ol girl. The newer compounds are much better as far as being a better finished surface.

Once we are past the bodywork and painting stage we will probbal go with Monstaliner on the CJ5 .

It is going to be a almost-daily driver and I don't want friends leaving skin wherever they touch. I used to wash cars and cannot tell you how much I hated what some bedliners did to my knees. I may very likely do a hard undercoat and top off contact points separately. so I guess I'm asking what you guys used and how it turned out.

You can buy the original Herculiner from the plant in Teaneck, NJ...you have about 10 or so colors to choose from. I bought mine direct years ago, and don't remember the price but it was lower than local retail.

Yeah, the original Durabak was pretty bad in that regard. Holds dirt too...
I think they have come a long way since and the new coatings are not nearly as bad. The samples I got from were Monstaliner were much smoother.

how bout a flat black ? not that shiny black ?
I'm thinking of doin my tub and my rollbar !

anybody do the bars ?

All liners are not created equal, that said........ the amount and type of additive that gives it the texture is what makes it sharp or dull. Large chunks of rubber found in some liners should make it softer. Rod

I used Herculiner in mine, firewall to tailgate. Been at least 5 years since the second coating; the original application was back in the late '90s. Seems to be holding up good so far. I usually catch it on sale at Menards (local home center) for about $75 (gallon kit).

I used monstaliner which I rolled on. I wish i would have sprayed it. It think it would have been easier. It's not rough at all and is not supposed to hold dirt. It had alot of good reviews. I also looked at using raptor liner. It's also not rough. My buddy used it on his truck bed and it was almost had a plastic feel to it. It comes with a spray gun too.

How's your monstaliner compared to the raptor? I was torn between the two but was afraid the monstaliner would be too slick and chip from some of the reviews I'd seen.

I chose the Raptor for the UV and custom color. Got mine tinted to match the tan seats. Disappointed in it's durability though. Already had it chip with just the drop of one of the lap seat belts by kids. Got under the roll bar and other areas pretty well so I wouldn't mind a quick fix application in a couple of years.

I Monstalined mine and 8 months in it's great. Soft enough that I'm not going to scrape stuff when I toss it in the back, and no problems with wear whatsoever.

I can't speak for the other alternatives but the roll-on application was a breeze, and they usually ship you a quart of chassis saver that's come in very handy.

Rhino Liner will always be my first choice. Every year I can youse their product to literally re-coat the surface for a new look year after year. No fading, just put a new coat on. Eight years since the original coat, you be the judge.

Ive got Line-X in my Laredo with carpet on top. Line-X is for the rust protection and carpet is for the sound deadening and keeps the floor heat out for the AC to work better. If it gets wet, park it in the sun and it drys without worry of rust underneath.

On my buddies Jeep, I sprayed in the Raptor Liner. Very nice! He went black, but tintable for color is an option too.
Not too rough at all. Great texture and can be thick or thin.

My CJ is so fast, it does 45 sitting still.

WOW, glad to see some fellow Texans on this post :chug: and some of you are very close by. I did Herculiner years ago and was not impressed at all, it faded, i tore good chunks of it off, Im planning on redoing the tub with Line X and having the wheel wells lined as well

fellow Texans

There's probably enough of us on here, including some we could adopt from Arizona, to once again start up 'Roosevelt's Rough-Riders'.
