Build Thread Rocky Mountain 85 CJ7
It was 8ft x 24 in...I got plenty left over. Got it in the concrete section. It cost 6 bucks...postage to Calms is...$270 bucks!! Dude...they still use schooners to deliver mail to that penal coloney?

Good project!
How was it after changing the carb.. in both off road and on road?
and how much does it cost for bbd to motorcraft 2150?

Huge difference with this carb. The engine runs very smooth and has more power. Additionally, when I go out and it's 5 degrees outside I know it's going to start. I also think the nutter bypass helped. I think with that and rebuilding the Carter it would have been better, but I am extremely happy with the 2150.

When you painted the body how much paint did it take? I am sure there are many variables but I am trying to ensure I have enough to put a few coats on it. After pricing what it would cost to have someone paint it I figured I would try it myself. Thanks in advance.

Sorry golden cj, I missed the second part of your question... It ran right $300 for the whole thing, this included spacer, gaskets, etc...I could probably have done it cheaper if I had bought an old MC2150 and rebuilt it myself...well worth the money.

I would get a gallon, if you don't use it all you will have some for touch up. And don't mix it all at one time when you are painting it.

Yep, I ended up buying one gallon plus a pint and I have a bit left over for touch up.

So I am trying to tighten up the suspension and notice my sway bar link bushings are shot. (See pic) looking for them, I only find the the whole bar Front Sway-Bar Link With Bushing (L/r) 5364122. Can I order just the bushings? What else should I be looking at to tighten things up?

Actually, it's not like it's really loose. (The steering) I just thought I should fix anything that is obviously worn...like those bushings. Reading the article now...alway hungry for more info. Thanks.

This was part of my complete kit. Took about 20 mins to get this all apart and back together. They have red or black, whatever your preference!:chug:

Ok, so looking over my front and rear leaf shackles the bushings are shot...so...seeing that I have to replace them, how much of a lift can I add without having to change anything else. I already did a 1.25 body lift. I read that for every 2 ins longer the shackle is over stock, you get one inch of lift. Will doing a 1 in lift (2 in shackles) affect the drive train? Also...I just put new shocks on...I am thinking these would have to be changed out for longer shocks...if that's the case than I will just replace to OEM length shackles.

I recommend that it be lifted by a kit. I haven't had any good experience of what you want!

I would stay away from shackle lifts they throw your caster off and then it drives like :dung:. I would just replace the bushings with urethane ones. IMO

Yeah, reading more it isn't worth the risks/stability issues and it fits fine under my 31's as it is. I am thinking about the greaseable bushings...anyone know if these are any better or worse than urethane bushings?

Getting 1 in like you stated is fine. I wouldnt go any further though with a shackle lift. If that 1 in is just what you need and you wont need anymore than go for it.

That said if your trying to find a way to fit larger tires then you need to go with a true spring lift. Or cut into that body that you really didnt spend much time on. :D

Its a tough thing to deal with but its better to not cheap your way out. Your best bet is to save some cash and get a good spring lift kit. Now you have to decide wether you want a 2.5 , 3 or 4 in kit. Think about it long and hard , while your saving money.

Yep, I think I will wait and see how it does this summer on the mountain trails. (see if I can keep up with Dave in Durango) If I need to get it up I will start saving for the spring lift for later. Glad I can bounce ideas off people and get honest feedback and ultimatly, some of these things can wait. I will get bushings and that will work for now...the jeep drives great even on showy roads so I can't complain. Next up Team Rush...gotta sell some stuff first.

The best thing you can do is get it running solid first. Id want mine in top mechanical shape being on those mountain trails. ;) The Team Rush is a good upgrade , I think youll like it.

The Team Rush is a great upgrade it cost me $AMC 150 buying everthing from Napa. Good luck keeping up with BusaDave :)

JUST MY EXPERINCE !!!
Suspension is a wickedly complicated process with pros and cons to every decision you make !!

1. You'll get a way with the shocks you have but they will limit your travel if you lift big ... On a CJ you should gain lift and prob won't see any "amazing" wheel travel gains.

2. Shackles will make a big difference to the flex. The thicker/heavier the shackle limits flex to just the bushes and springs, where as the two piece shackles that bolt together will allow more flex.

3. General rule of thumb is the higher you go, the more it will drive like a shopping trolley. So my advice would be to pick a height, and run with the cost.

4. It all costs more. Lifting to get bigger tires and the ultimate goal of better clearance, then needs gear changes and possible torque/power increases to the engine to compensate.

5. Best highway driving will be with your 31's and just a little bit of lift.

6. You'll be very surprised what a difference a new bushing kit makes to the ride and handling ... I like polly, other swear by rubber ??

No answers ... just opinions from down-under :D
Some blokes swear their ride is excellent with ridiculous shackle lift, others end up pulling lifts out to go back to 2.5" lifts ...

Either way, keen to see which way u go on a few options
