Well I can understand someone that's had a Jeep and been driving in Jeep for years or even decades would have it as more of a hobby and would have their driving of the unit much more limited than someone that just got into it. Me, on the other hand I'm new to Jeeps only having this 1970 dauntless V6 CJ5 since 23. As an adult I've always lived in a highly urban area also known as the San Francisco Bay area. On weekends I spent my time mountain biking if you go to YouTube I have a mountain biking channel under the same name as my username here. You'll see 20 years worth of mountain biking however I go back 37 years.
And even though as a kid growing up in the Detroit suburbs only being 35 mi from where Jeeps were actually manufactured in Toledo ohio, my mother's Brothers (all my uncles) were Ford engineers so we were only allowed to have lousy Fords. I'm sure my dad would have loved to have a Jeep but just didn't have the money with the boats and the snowmobiles and the cabins up in northern Michigan near traverse City- just wasn't in the budget.
Like I said I've got a four-wheel drive Chevy suburban with the 454 but it has 310,000 mi of towing & general use that has limited me to two gears.
And thanks to our government I had to quit working about 5 years earlier than I was planning so moving out to the middle of nowhere in the northeast corner of California came as a bit of a surprise to me. So I don't just have an extra four grand to send the suburban over and get the transmission rebuilt which is what I'd like to do. My other vehicle is a GMC pickup truck that I bought new back in 2001 it's a great unit I take in good care of it it's got about 250,000 mi on. The problem with that unit is it's got some front end body damage and typical building vehicles like their aircraft nowadays the serpentine belt comes off because the core support is bent and everything is built to depend on everything else nothing stands on its own apparently. That's another three grand in body work to say the least.
And like I said, I never had a Jeep and always wanted one but just didn't think it was practical living in the highly urban area and then wanting to go ride my mountain bike on the weekend instead of just tooling around burning fuel as I was tired of being in a vehicle with my long commutes every single day. So I am like a little kid with his Christmas toys still with this Jeep trying to come up with an excuse to drive at as often as I can it has no top and I've driven it as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The thing was beat up on a ranch they just beat the

out of it the original owners used it just for off-roading it never even got registered until it was 28 years in use. I'm into this unit for about $7,500 which isn't bad I only paid $2,000 to get the unit the clown wanted five grand for it I just laughed but he did sell it to me. The transfer case was shot the front differential was toast and had holes in the casing and the rear brakes were a disaster and the clutch was shot. So I do want to get some driving out of it immediately to feel justified in spending all that money. In a few years when my annuities kick in because like I said I was planning on working for a while but that wasn't going to be in the cards for me which is okay. I do like being retired and I do like being by myself in the middle of nowhere! I'm in a county with only 5,000 people and we didn't have a lockdown here and all that nonsense thanks to our sheriff. But one day soon when I get my other vehicles fixed I envision that I won't be driving the jeep like I'm relying on it to get things. One thing for sure is I don't drive a vehicle everyday. I try to go 7 days if possible before even starting the unit to go into town and I don't look forward to having to go in fact I have to go today I dread driving into town because I get the business from everybody doesn't matter where I am everybody got to give me s***. I'm new member here I was on the old CJ's website but they're toast I don't know what's going on with them. I'm also trying to sell some brand new headers. They didn't work for my unit I don't know why I Hedman claims that they work. Maybe someone that knows what they're looking for will realize that SKU # 69420 is what they need.
Glad I could explain myself people can become acquainted with me like I said I do have a YouTube channel that has mountain biking hopefully one day I'll have one that has jeeping. Cuz heaven forbid I put jeep stuff on a mountain bike channel I'll lose subscribers like crazy. Right now I'm at 700,000 views in 20 years which is not a lot but then again I'm just out having a ball and people aren't that thrilled that I'm having all the fun. Hope this helps
