Sometimes I get so frustrated. All I wanted to do was get the rear drums back together today with the parking brake hooked up like it should be. What frustrates me is what should be a simple job is turning into and long adventure. First to discover pads are installed wrong, so what as least they are still good, easy fix, next discover missing parts fine order them wait a week. Parts come in yeah put it back together, only to realize I didn't order all the parts needed. Didn't see the part that said I needed a Parking brake lever strut. You know the piece that goes between the drum pads so they engage equally. Check all the local parts stores don't have it. Only find them on E-bay and won't have them here until the end of the month. This is why i get frustrated, but I'm learning.
Who knew putting a parking break cable in would be such a pain in the <-BAD WORD->.

I feel your pain. Buying rear brake hardware is coming up for me, once I fix my 1-piece axle screw-up.
Can you tell me, if you bought new drum wheel cylinders, did they come with the links? I can't seem to figure out if I need to order them separately or they come with.

I got lucking Tim the cylinders were good. Just didn't realize how many parts it takes to re-install the parking brake. Thought I ordered a repair kit. Doesn't include everything needed. Make a list of everything needed before you order. Which is what I should have done.

I will be following this closely. Haven't even looked at my brakes yet, but I imagine they will be nothing less than a humbling challenge that will test the limits of my patience as well. Please post pictures of what you find and how it goes together if you can. Good luck and thanks for sharing what you have so far!

Everything in mine was completely rusted, so it's all new hardware for me. I'm hoping I can save the drums, I need to clean them up and see if I have the material to have them turned (if anybody im my town still does that kind of thing).

Meh. That doesn't look so bad at all. The outside is ugly. Hit it with a Wheel and paint it with rust inhibitor. The inside isn't terrible. It's basically the axle flange that needs cleaned up. You can probably hit it with some brake cleaner and then 220/400 grit and it'll clean right up. What does the inside of the drum look like? That's the part I would be most concerned about.
