T-18 Tranny Question

T-18 Tranny Question
One thing to consider when using the Gear Ratio Calculator is your engine RPM. Someone stated they would be running @ 2000 RPM with a 5 speed tranny if I remember correctly. What folks need to understand is that the goal isn't to reduce RPMs @ high speed for better fuel economy. That doesn't work. Matter of fact you will be burning more fuel to keep the jeep going @ higher speed.

The research I've found for straight 6 or V8's is min 2200 RPMs to 2800 for the Straight 6 and around 2600 for V8's.

Four cylinders like to run around 2800 RPMs.

Those are the engine curves and that's where they like to run for optimize fuel efficiency and the least amount of wear and tear on the internals.

Just wanted to throw that stuff out there...
