Team Rush upgrade question

I’ve read the post on doing the Team Rush upgrade and I’m going to do it. My question pertains to the distributor cap. I have an 85 CJ7 with the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I know I have to get the cap for an F150 with the 300. So do I just have to order that cap for the same year as my Jeep? Or is it a specific year?

Yes...I've read it. Just need to clarify...

"If you have a strait six in your Jeep you can look up the parts for the same year Ford F150 but with a 300 strait six."

Meaning same year as mine?

It matters less the year of your Jeep than the type of distributor (Motorcraft) as they crossed many years on our Jeeps. Here's another thread that I used on my V8 (but it's more about the I6)

Thanks you! I just checked the part numbers you had listed and searched the numbers and found that they are for an 85 F150. That helped a great deal!!!!!

The dizzy cap mod is not that big a deal-Nice to have, but not necessary.

I thought it was prudent to keep errant spark from jumping to the wrong teminal in high voltage coil applications, but then, what do I know. I was going by reccomendations from here and elsewhere.
