THANKS! - Notice I somehow failed to post pics of the grille after I finished the welding? LOL, sorta kept the laughing and finger pointing down to a minimum. I did weld it all around, ground it flush, and skimmed it with body filler then glaze. I think it's flatter now than before I started...

Got the grille ready for primer and paint...... gettin there slowly but surely. Bought a bag of Shark Bite glass media to try - works pretty well. No silica dust. 7 bucks a 50lb bag. Got all the old layers of paint off (where there was paint) hit it with rattle can primer till I can hit it with the real stuff in a couple weeks. Painted the inside of the grille satin black..... Good thing I'm not goin for a full restoration.

I like the satin black on the inside of the grill it will highlight the body color on the front of the grill

It's Dupli-color self etching primer. Rustoleum makes it as well, and you can't tell the difference I wish I had the ability to get all the prep work done at one time, then hit it with the good stuff - but I can't do this is just to keep the rust at bay till I get everything ready for primer. Got a little more work done this weekend - nothing near what gert's been doing, but I got some done LOL. I still need to get the windshield frame prepped, but I diverted my attention (got sidetracked) fabbing up a driver side seat riser. This Jeep came with Wrangler seats, and the passenger seat had a CJ riser, and the driver side had a Wrangler riser, and it was really rickety. It was like having a sideways recliner in the Jeep. So, I decided to build a new riser, and I may build one for the passenger side as well since I don't forsee any reason to need it to tilt forward. I don't recall it ever giving a great deal of room anyway. I'll keep the CJ pass. riser just in case I change my mind.....

Here's where I started...



Notched the upright, used the cutoff wheel to score the flat to create a bend line, once the bends were right, I bolted it to the floor for tacking....





cut fillers for the notches created after bending...

Got everything tacked in place...



And all welded up.



I got em ground smooth and primed - And here's the driver's side.... - lemme get the rest of the pics...... I'm sorry, we seem to be having technical difficulties...... sorta.

Ok - switching to Tapatalk to add the rest...

Now that I've started this, I'm thinking about building in a steel storage cabinet into the base......Hmmmmm.

Yeah - would really like to do a security drawer..... we'll see. Ive drawn up a security overhead box that looks sorta like a Tuffy overhead, but has one large remotely operated swing down door..... so while I'm at it I would like to stick something under the seat.

Got a little bit done yesterday after work - grabbed the tailgate and removed the seal and halfway expected to find a good bit of rust - but found NONE!

Got it cleaned up and it's ready for final sand

And about got the windshield frame ready - cutting defroster slots today. There must have been twenty holes along the sides from who knows how many different soft top frames having been mounted over the years. Welded em all up and will start over.

Years ago, when my Grandfather died, I got his 78 Scout - wished it had been in better shape and I would have been able to refurb it back to good - anyway, he had several hundred acres we would spend a good deal of summers on, and he always carried a bow saw somewhere under the hood of every truck he ever had. So when the Scout left, I kept the bow saw, I have repainted it, an will continue the tradition with the CJ

Got the defroster vents cut into the windshield frame today - they aren't as straight and wet as I would have liked, but they will be covered .... better than the frame that was on it!!

I grew up on a small ranch back in the 60s & 70s and we had a IH Scout also. Think my dad took it in on some type of horse trade deal. We had about 500 acres which was small at the time and we drove around it in that scout. We carried around a Sven saw and my dads Boy Scout hatchet. Just made and replaced the wood handles on the hatchet last year and have the saw also. Figured the hatchet is about 80 years old and has the BS fleur-de-lis insignia on the side. Wish I had that early 60s scout also.

If I remember correctly, my GrandfAther had three Scouts - two were the older smaller models, and the one I got was the Scout II. He was a big IH fan. I was 18 when he died, and wasn't paying attention to "stuff" like I now wish I had been. When he retired from DuPont, he and a buddy bought the land to hunt on. A few years later the buddy sold his half to my grandad, and then that was the summer hangout. They spent most of the warm months there, heading back home on Sundays for groceries and such. I can't tell you how many summer I spent there. Would have loved to have bought it from my grandmother but at 18, whadya gonna do? He was a gunsmith as well, and built rifles for a good 30 years. I have been lucky enough to scrounge up several he built. One of them he started but died before making much progress - so I got that one and finished it. That will be the last one to go........ But as for the CJ, I got some cool stuff while cleaning the house out for the estate sale last year - the air horns were a cool find (along with the small reservoir tank), a full sheet OD 12ga steel (that will be turned into an overhead security box), couple spools of 10 or 12 ga wire, and almost a thousand rounds of 7.62x39 ammo (ties in with the security box [emoji6]). Ok, out to the garage.....

Yeah that is the scout we had. Small almost like the original Broncos. Hard cab with small pickup type bed. We had some IH farm implements plus some Ford and MF tractors
