Up in North Carolina there is a road special for sports cars & motorcycles. Think it is called the devils tail or devils whip. Really winding through the mountains with lots of sharp turns. At the bottom of the mountain there is what I think is an old looking motel with a big tree with a ton of motorcycle wrecked parts just hanging from it. Guess that would qualify

Yup - Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap - for motorcycles it ranks in the top three rides! And the wreckage is there for a reason - many switchbacks and hairpins.... I think the CJ with the windshield down would be a blast

You wouldn't be too far from my back yard...... that's only a 3 hour drive or so fro me.

Well, that was a big fat lie..... it's further from me than I thought. More like 5 and a half hrs.....

Did the Tail of the Dragon a few years ago on the Road King... It was pouring rain... We started on the uphill end but had to wait while a flatbed tow truck dragged a brand new ElectraGlide on its side up onto it. We rode rather slowly after that to the Tree of Shame. Don't know what happened to the rider... he had already been taken from the scene.

When you see that tree you can tell there have been a few of those. Beautiful area to go jeep riding and camping though

Got primer shot on the grille, fenders, hood, tailgate, and windshield frame Easter weekend - and not being a bodywork guy, learned not to try to go too fast. First coat of primer went down beautifully - nearly smooth enough to lay color on. For the second coat, I decided to widen the spray pattern - ya know, to cover more ground and finish faster. Sounded good in my head. It did cover more surface faster, but didn't have time to settle down - dried like 80 grit sandpaper. So, when time allows, I've been wet sanding - redefining the term slow but sure. Here's my makeshift wet sanding setup.....




As soon as I get these smoothed out, I'll get primer on the doors, roll bar, and tub. I keep telling myself I'm getting closer to color [emoji16]

I also got the mirrors off the half doors sanded down and painted - the only thing that bugs me now is the Chrysler emblem on the face of the mirror. It's in the silver, so I can't alter it - so I covered it. Don't know yet if I like the color version - may have to do em in grays and see which I like better

I've gotten all the primed pieces sanded down, they're ready to paint. Now that I'm ready to shoot some more primer, it appears that we have been transplanted into a rain forest ...... until I get out for the summer I have free time Fri evening and Sat. Not much Jeepin time. Soooo, in the mean time I've been putting some thoughts on paper for an overhead security box. After some sketching, I've about got it designed up in CAD. I wanted something sturdy and lockable, similar to the Tuffy overhead consoles for CB's / stereos, but a lot cheaper. Was gonna build a security drawer under the back seat, but I will be hauling two decent size dogs around, and need as much depth in the back I can get. Here's the design at about 80% done



It's going to bolt to the windshield frame and roll bar, utilizing a spacer bar between the box and roll bar to account for windshield angle variations. The hard part was figuring out a locking mechanism that didn't require a key, that was strong, and didn't require battery voltage (to prevent battery drain). A lot of head scratching later, it hit me - I had the perfect locking feature the while time! Right after I bought the Jeep, I picked up a Stack-on lockable pistol box that was designed to be locked to something in a vehicle via a steel cable. Had planned on bolting it to the floor - but I like this better.

Once again I'm using material from my Grandfather's stash. During the house cleaning, found a full 4'x8' sheet of 11 ga steel in the garage. Gives me something to do when it's raining..... once unlocked, the door will swing down to allow access to the contents. And being bolted in, will allow the windshield to be dropped, which I'm gonna HAVE to do!!!
