Build Thread The '80 FrankenJeep frame off reassembly
Looking good , can't wait to see the rest done. You paid a little more attention to detail than my Rustoleum job lol. :notworthy:

Yeah, but I've taken a good chunk of my life span to get here..... impatient doesn't even begin to describe my mood right now.... as for the paint - I got primer, paint, reducer, etc, for less that 220 bucks. We have an automotive paint supply shop that keeps rejected colors on a pallet in the back - good paint, just the customer didn't like the color...... I figured by the time I got enough to rattle can primer and paint I'd be in about the same spot.

Paint looks good! coming along nicely.

Ok - painting this thing piece by piece was a good choice I think - ain't the normal way, but fits my personality LOL. The doors are done, fenders are done, grill is done except for the blacking of the back side, and all the hinges are done. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the roll bar, spreader bars, and windshield frame done. Then all that's left would be the tub - if the planets line up correctly, may knock that out Sunday.

So far........

I appreciate the support - and I have accepted the fact that this Jeep will be a 10 footer...... looks fantastic from 10', but up close it has a few "things" in the paint....... lint, dust...... but no bugs, yet. If I were planning on showing it, or just cruising malls, then I'd sweat it - but the first time I drug a tree limb of bush down the side of a perfect paint job I'd cry. This on will just be pre stressed. As long as it looks nice and slows the rust I'm good with it!!

Mine is the same way. Original paint that looks good in a picture or live from 10 feet. I don't have to worry about about scratches in a beautiful paint job!

Spent the weekend on my honey-do list..... so this evening after dinner, I worked on the speaker grilles for the doors. I had already worked out the speaker locations, so once the paint was good and set, I remounted the speakers. I cut openings in the inner door panels, but needed grilles to cover the cutouts....... and the speakers I bought had grilles too large to fit where I wanted them to go. Back to Lowes, picked up some 1/2" steel strips, grabbed a hack saw, and 37 trips back and forth to the grinder, and now have the speaker grille pieces cut and ready to be welded up. Drill and tap a few holes, cover with speaker grille cloth, they should be good to go.

I'll probly cut a little of the frame away where the speaker cutout is - may not make much difference in the sound, but it bugs me that it covers some of the opening......

And with a three day weekend coming up, I'm hoping the weather cooperates - could get the rest of the painting done...

Finished up the grille frames, got one covered with speaker cloth, and stuck the inner panel on to see what it was gonna look like....... I like it! The inner panel needs new clips - I'll swap them out here in a couple days......

The main intent of the speaker cloth was to at least make the door speakers a lot less visible - I think it worked.

Yeah that really does look good! Did you glue the metal strip to the door panels? I see the hole but no screws.

Drilled and tapped the holes on the frame, then screwed the frame to the panel from behind. I'll post a pic later tonight

Did you order your new lights yet? :Poke:

HA - No, not yet. I have a relay harness to drive the headlights when I put everything back together....... we'll see how that looks. But - where did you order the marker and signal lights from???
