That shift knob is looking great!

That was just lacquer thinner.... it’ll be a satin finish when I get done. I’m looking forward to getting the shift patterns on the tops.....

Looks like they're going to be be a nice set of shift knobs…

Well, today was interesting..... Ever done something and didn’t bother checking any reference material, disassembly photos, etc cause you thought you knew what you were doing, only to spend a couple hours time proving you didn’t?? Well, I had one of those moments today. After getting the nut plates for the tailgate hinges in place and hinges and tailgate properly mounted, I was feeling pretty good. That was a couple weeks ago. Today, I was gonna swap out the screws for the tailgate cables with some I had painted. Lowered the tailgate, and this is what I saw.....

My first thought was the cables were too long. That couldn’t be right - same cables. Then I thought the PO put the cable brackets on in the wrong spot. That couldn’t be right - worked before I tore it apart..... Then it hit me.

I put the stupid hinges on upside down. Sooooo..........

Don't feel bad. Many of us have done the same thing.

:chug: You are not the last to do that. :) seen it before on the forum, and you won't be the last. It's looking great :chug:

Funny thing was, the entire thought process between “what the heck” to “ah :dung:” was about a half a second. Neighbors probly wondered why I was standing in the driveway laughing, all by myself.....

Oh :dung:, glad I saw you do that before I drilled mine upside down on my tub

LOL - yeah, all I had to do was flip the hinges. Technically speaking, the hole spacing wouldn’t change so ya might get away with t. But boy does it look funny when you put the tailgate down with the hinges upside down. Kinda like a dump gate.

PO did that on mine, but moved the inside mounts for the cables to make the tailgate level, although too high. I redid it all this summer.

I'm known to make similar progress on stuff I'm working on. Two steps forward, one step back.

Haven't checked out your thread in a while. Wow. Building your own wheel.

Dude... respect.

Well, no great progress lately - may not get much done till after Christmas..... did get the hood in place today though....

Looking good. Are you going to paint the w/s frame red?

It’s already red - just usin the old one as a place holder. Once I get new glass and gasket in the painted one I’ll swap it over. I’m really anxious to get the good one in place so I can hang the security box....

What gasket for the glass?

The inner and outer rubber gasket / seal. It’s a Wrangler frame......

We got the day off due to cold....... wussies. Since I had a couple hours to waste, I stopped by a local glass shop - got em to give me a quote on sticking new glass in the painted windshield frame - New glass, gaskets, labor, and tax - 163 bucks. With their warranty. I can’t order the parts for that. Drop it off today, pick it up Monday, then ALL the parts will be red [emoji106][emoji106]. Then I can get the spreader bars and security box in place.......
