Build Thread The '80 FrankenJeep frame off reassembly

Build Thread The '80 FrankenJeep frame off reassembly
Since my garage is a one car garage, and a small 1 at that, and we are both pack rats, I got tired of digging a path to the front end to work under the hood.... so I yanked the Jeep outside, repacked a bunch of :dung:, spun the Jeep 180 degrees, and shoved it back inside. Now I have room to work...... the fact that my driveway drops about 4' in about 30' made it a little sporty during the spin....... I got it lined up with the door, jacked it up to remove my dollies out from under the tires, set her down and pushed her out into the driveway. Actually, I had a large rubber wheel chock behind the Jeep and pulled it out - once it started down the driveway, I chocked it.

Here's a couple pics of the security box...

Once I had it chocked I put it back onto the dollies. I hung an old tow strap from the same anchor point I'd used for the tub and wrapped it around the front bumper, and started pushing. I would have taken a few pics during this but I was hurrying too much to stop and take any. After a bit of pushing, tugging, and cussing, I got it turned around. Before I took the dollies back out I wanted to ether it so it would go for a roll by itself

Here she is just before going back into the garage...

Then I decided to go ahead and stick the flares in place.... I know some don't agree, but to me the flares make the package!!!

And I was a bit worried about the tires protruding past the flares, but it's not as bad as I thought

Nothing major, just a lot of small stuff.... radiator and hoses, all lubricants, rear drive shaft, mount and wire coil, battery, power steering lines, brake lines to the master cylinder...... and seats.

I really like this color as well - best part is the metal flake isn't visible unless it's in direct sunlight...

Looks great. And the flares finish it! Congrats getting it turned around solo.

It really does look great. And the silver bolts look good to me Maybe I should just swap bolts with you :)

:agree: You have done a great job. Is the rollbar a YJ bar with a bar added behind the seats?

It is a YJ bar. The bottom mounts were bad on the CJ bar and I got this one stupid cheap to transplant the pads. Then the box idea hit and the spreader bar helps prevent the windshield frame from quickly moved forward. The added cross bar is for the possible future addition of 4 point harnesses.

Does the YJ roll bar fit exactly as the CJ bar ? Sent from the outhouse

I HAHAHA - one holer??

I believe they do, but I have a YJ tub as well. Still had to slightly slot a couple holes. But it’s my understanding the YJ sport bars will drop right in

I thought it was because you have a YJ W/S frame and it would bolt right up.

Oh, yes - the spreader bars bolted right up.

Well if it helps I have a YJ tub with a CJ roll bar and it bolts right up

I think other than the spreader bar attachment points the CJ / YJ sports bars are the same. Matter of fact, the bar that came in mine was a CJ bar that had the holes drilled in it for the spreader bars and that works fine
