Wow...just read through this entire thread. I'm surprised I got anything accomplished today! Amazing read, and incredible work. Glad to see it finally starting to pay off. This is really giving me a confidence boost...looking at what would be my first CJ7 this weekend. Once I got to the steering wheel, I started sharing links to this thread with all of my friends! Really inspirational. Itching to start one one of my own now...

I’m starting to get scared that your build thread will be done really soon :(

Thanks for the kind words...... I'm actually starting to think I'll live long enough to drive it legally on the road!!!

If I can pull this off, anyone can. Great vehicle to learn on.....

What pieces for the top ?

This CJ came with an old early 80's fastback top, and the door opening rods are just steel tubing. The upper rod support is a plastic piece riveted to an aluminum angle and is attached to the back side of the windshield frame.

Now that I have a YJ windshield frame with spreader bars, the upper plastic part hits the spreader bar plate.

(This pic sucks...)

I figure I have a couple options - new top....... not gonna happen. Notch the spreader bar plate....... would REALLY like to not do that. Or notch the back of the plastic part. That wouldn't leave much to hold the support rod. So I'm gonna get a couple pieces of 1" aluminum angle, make new pieces that aren't scratched up, and make new alum. parts. Then 3D print the plastic pieces that will fit around the spreader bar plate.

That is a different set up than what came with my 84 softtop. I don't have that bar either. Mine sits on the inside where your bar is. I'm having to change mine because of the 1/2 doors (metal ) and soft uppers. A guy at work who is a machinist is making me something out of aluminum also. He already made a couple of other parts out of aluminum and are a perfect match to what I needed. He is almost finished, just needs to make the rod hole a little larger

Hopefully, tomorrow the brakes will be air free...... so far the best I can do by myself is spongey. I bled em a bit today, and they're better. And still need to get my air fuel mixture dialed in. In the mean time, I've been tinkering with the graphics I wanna stick on the CJ since it's all red. I found a pic online of a similar color scheme I want. I bought the vinyl about a year ago, and since I now have the layout like I want, I'm gonna try to cut it Monday. Today I swapped the knife for a pen holder and drew the graphics out, cut em out with scissors and taped em in place to verify figment. Here go the result (the pen lines are hard to see in some of the pics):

This is the pic I saw that got me to thinking about a decal set.

thats gonna look sweet, are you making your own?

Yeppers - I've had the vinyl for a while. Took a couple iterations, but I figured out how to export images from AutoCad ready to upload to the vinyl cutter software.....

Never fails - get one thing done, and that complicates two others. I got the channel mount pieces for the soft top stuck on the tub. No problems. Stuck the soft top bows on, good. Went to attach the small pieces that hold the bottom of the vertical door opening rods, and realized e YJ channel pieces have a rubber gasket on the end..... so I trimmed the rubber part to fit the rod mount...

The good news - there is a thread line along the bottom of the soft top snap strip is sewn in. It is exactly where the fold line will be for the channel mount pieces. At least that was easy....

Did I mention it doesn't appear the alternator is charging?
