Thanks. Your “quick and dirty” will end up better than any final product I make. So I appreciate the walk through.
Dude ! How did you get ahold of the blue prints of NASAs new rocket ?Will do, Sir - but keep in mind this is going to be a quick and dirty deal to just close the hole. It’s also the practice piece so when I do the big deal fancy one I hopefully will have worked thru any troubles....... but the general process should be the same. For these, the attachment / trim ring will be plastic - sort of a functional prototype as it were. I drew cut lines and stitch lines on the back of each piece - here’s one of the sides cut and ready for sewing

I was going to do an “accordion “ style boot, but quickly decided to just do a simple one that’s tall enough to scrunch down to give room to shift. I cut the bottoms to be a bit longer and wider than the cutout in the cover plate. I made that as well, and the openings are smaller than factory - so smaller boots will work. Here are the stitching lines

As for the opening at the top - I took the circumference of the shift lever, worked back to a radius, added two thickness of the vinyl, then went back to a circumference, divided by 4, and that was the width I used between stick lines at the top.
This is the bottom “flange” that will be bonded to the trim ring prior to attachment.

I did buy enough vinyl so that when it comes time for the good ones, I’ll have plenty to work with.

Flip it inside out! Come on. I am impatient. [emoji6]
Looking great
Very nice. Did you sew the part at the top that is rolled in on itself or just tuck it inside itself? I hope that makes sense.
