Transmission housing???

So I have a little "ding" in what I believe to be my Transmission housing. Wondering if anyone can let me know what I have going on/what I can do to fix it.

Can I take that front plate off and bend it back into shape or do I have to replace the unit? And if I have to replace, what exactly is it that I have to get?

- 1980 Cj5, 350 chevy (i built myself), T176, Dana 300, stock narrow trac 3.54 axles, locked in the rear, power steering, power brakes, tilt steering, Warn lockouts, 31x10.50x15 AT's, hi lift jack mounted on the front, bed lined tub, firestick cb setup, 5 in hella lights, NO RUST!!
you can take it off and hammer it back out no problem. i bet you have to take the tranny out to get it off though. use a block of wood and do it right where it is

So I could just beat it back into place where it is? That would be sweet if I didn't have to take the whole engine/tranny out to do that. I wouldn't damage anything if I do that?

That looks like the inspection cover that lets you see in to the clutch. You should just be able to unbolt it and flatten it back out.

I popped of the plate today. Managed to clean all the sludge off and bend it back into shape. Got it back on with no problems. Now I just have to clean all the grime off the bottom of the engine and figure out where that leak is.
