84 CJ 7, all stock as far as I know... just bought it 4 days ago and it needs a lot of work.
I have recently purchased an '84 CJ7 . This is my 1st Jeep to own. It needs a lot of work. I have many things I need to do to it to get it running, but I have noticed that the Transmission and Transfer Case have been moved back slightly.

My question is, do any of you have an idea what this was caused from? I have done some research and it appears to be a T-5 Transmission , with a Dana 300 . You can see in the pictures that the floor pan has been bent down and the lever to the Transfer Case has been rubbing against the floor. I do not have a picture of the clutch linkage, but it too is slanted toward the back of the vehicle from the fire wall where it mounts over to the bell housing mounting point.

I have posted 5 pictures.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have never posted to a forum, but have read many, many threads and posts on a number of topics.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum neighbor :chug: your jeep looks normal to me, thats similar to what my tub looked like when I got it and it had the T-4 /Dana 300 combo I am willing to bet you have a combination of sagging/dead body mounts, dead/sagging engine mounts and dead/sagging Transmission mounts that is causing your problems but I cant tell for sure without being there to see it. your radiator fan should not be more than 1 inch away from your radiator, if it is it may have shifted back

#56 will get you new motor mounts and tranny mounts with a new torque limiter bushing for the Transfer Case , that should stop the Transfer Case shifter from bouncing off the floor and hopefully move the engine back to where it is suppose to be Jeep AMC 6-Cylinder 4.2L (258ci) Engine Parts

item #13 will get you new body mounts and the tub might sit a little better, just be aware that the bolts are bad about breaking off because they are rusted to the nut so if you dont want to tackle that you will probably be ok and you will need to get the new bolts at your local tractor supply

let us know how it goes

Thank you gert! I am ready to start tearing into this machine. I will replace the 3 mounts and see if that helps. When I have turned the engine over in an effort to start it, the motor and Transmission shake with each rotation it seemed. The body bushing kit is something that I know needs to be replaced. The bushings underneath are cracked in many places.

Thank you for the information. If you find out anything else, let me know. I appreciate it!

Considering I am new to this type of communication, I will be posting more of the build as I go.

Thanks again!:chug:
