Transmission noise.

Transmission noise.
Do that again in neutral.
Wonder if the noise is coming from the friction plate of the clutch.
Did you have the f'wheel resurfaced??

I'll do it tonight when I get back home. I put a new LUK brand flywheel in it. I still have the old one. It didnt look bad. It just had one chipped tooth.

Ok I put it up on stands to get another video in neutral. Nothing to show it doesn't move. I played with it some more in gear and the clutch disc seems really loose in there rattling around. I don't get it. It did not do this before. It's been 5 years or so when I took this Jeep apart but I would have remembered this noise. I've tried my old clutch and it made the same the same noise so I don't think it is the disc itself. When I had the Transmission out I put the disc on the input shaft to see how tight of a fit it was on the spline. Both new and old clutch fit with minimal play. I have to have something wrong. It's got to be something I'm overlooking. Here's another video same scenario in gear and clutch pedal pressed. I'm moving the disc around with a screwdriver.

This noise started with the new flywheel install?
The starter rings on a flywheel are an easy change.
Might be worth a shot with the old flywheel.
Make sure the bolts don't go past the inside of the f'wheel on the engine side.
Might want to inspect the friction disc for spring breakage-Gotta pull it to do that.

I bought it planning on driving it around while fixing it up but It turned into a frame off restoration. It didn't make any noise before i took it apart. I assembled it with all new parts. So something I did or installed is causing the noise. The springs on the disc look good. I even have installed my old disc and tried that out.

It's Haunted.......

The clunk'n I hear in your last 2 vids. Where you are moving the clutch disc around, is very close to the noise I hear when you drive it. At least it is to these old ears.
Maybe this will give you an idea about what to look at in your rebuild.

Definitely a conundrum. I had the same noise in a Jeep we bought several years ago, and it turned out to be the pilot bearing. I know that you said you replaced the pilot, but is it the right one? I love LUK clutches, but I did receive one with the wrong throw out bearing. Other clutch assembly's that I have ordered, one came with the wrong pilot bearing. From your videos, it looks like there is some up and down movement to the clutch disc which would indicate too large of a bore pilot. It is possible that parts got mixed up by the manufacturer. One time, I started to install a clutch disc that fit the input shaft. Fortunately, I discovered the problem before I installed the Transmission . I had inadvertently grabbed a disc with the correct spline count, but the diameter was 1 1/8, and I needed one that was 1 1/16.

As far as the bell housing movement, something's wrong there! The bell should be drawn tight against the engine. If you have that kind of movement, you have the wrong bolts in the wrong holes, a spacer or alignment pin is not properly located, something is wedged between the bell and engine, or any number of other things. I would not drive the vehicle, or even run it until you solve this problem or you could cause a lot of damage.

:agree: :notworthy:
