Transmission Question

put in a SM465! :D

There used to be a kit out there to rebuild the T-5 using WC T-5 parts...but I haven't seen it in years. I doubt it's even available anymore, and it was expensive to start with.

On that note, rebuilding a T-5 is expensive. I've been there, and sadly, when it broke again, I immediately kicked myself in the butt for not replacing it the first time.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options if you want to keep a 5-speed tranny. NV4500's are popular...and expensive, but bulletproof. AX15's are a medium duty option.

If you can live with a 4-speed, a T-176 (medium duty) or a T-18 (heavy duty) swap is highly recommended. These are the two easiest trannys to mod to your current drivetrain.

It is not that bad, T-5 trannies make a great way to get you poundage up when going to the recycler with scrap metal.

Approaching the issue from the other end. Instead of making it stronger you could make the stress it has to handle less. Lowering the diff or Transfer Case gear ratio will lower the stress of anything in front of said part.
