Unknown hole in rear axle??

Ok, can anyone tell me what the extra hole, near the vent tube hole is for? I noticed it today when I start cleaning up the rear end and replacing the rear end oil. When I pulled the cover of, the rear end was full of water and sludge. Cleaned it out, replaced the seal and tomorrow I plan on replacing the pinion nut oil seal. Not sure how or why there was that much water in there, but I wondered if the extra hole had something to do with it. Thanks.

That looks like a tapped hole where the brake line holder gets fastened. if its on the left side it might be where the line splitter gets bolted down.

If you are looking from the rear end forwar, the hole is on the right, next to the axle vent valve. I have looked in a couple different manuals and can't seem to find it. Maybe someone on here has the answer. Thanks Fast Toys.

I think Fast Toys nailed it. There is a bolt that goes through the brake line T that secures it to the axle housing.

That is exactly where it is and looks exactly where I need to put my brake hose. LOL! The PO had a hoses and lines running everywhere and no clamps or brakets, so when I scrapped it all, I had no reference point. I will post a pic of how I laid mine out and know I don't have to worry about anything leaking from there. Thanks guys for the help.

On mine the brake line
Spliter is on the left. On the right was jusr a clamp for the brake line on that side. Rod

If I don't have any brake lines near there, would it be OK to just thread a bolt and lockwasher into it?

Keep the bolt on the short side.

Thanks, I'llcheck for another hole on the other side of the differential as well and work on getting them both plugged up.
