Anyone know what's going on here? Considering buying this 1980 CJ5 . But something seems off.

Below is the one you need. There's two different style oil fill plugs for two different valve covers. One that is a turn locking style (below) and the other that is just a rubber stopper.

Tried that. The hole has been modified to accept the screw in cap. Stock cap will not work.
 
That sucks! Sounds like you need a new valve cover, or maybe weld on new metal to fix the botch job done by the PO.
