Water Temp Sensor 83 CJ7?

I am confused about what should be pretty basic stuff. I am trying to determine where the temp sensor is and I am getting conflicting info when trying to source the part. Some places state it is pic #1 which is screwed into the intake manifold right next to where the water hose exist to the thermo housing. Other places say it is pic#2 which is screwed into the head at the back rear corner on the drivers side. Would someone help me in identifying these two sensors it would be greatly appreciated.

The small sensor on the right is a temp sender that is basically used . I don't no for the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l My AMC 304 and 360 use the right one . I also have a mechanical water temp gauge i perfer over electrical gauges.

I believe your conflict comes from having the computer on your Jeep from from the factory. The one that you want to use for your temp gage will be the one in the block(the one on the right) the other goes to your computer
