What did you do to or with your CJ today?
It was cold and windy with rain, we drove about 60 miles and I loved every minute of it. There were some firsts. The first time I've used the windshield wipers and used the heater. With only a bikini top on it wasn't warm, but my feet were happy.

:chug:
There is just something about driving a CJ in inclement weather

i attempted to put my new soft top on but it was so cold the leather wasnt stretching so i only go half of it done. i couldnt get the one bar that forms the frame by where the window and door to go into the sleaves lol.. so it a sad looking top.. my gf is doing the girl thing and thinks thats how its always going to look so she wants to know how im going to put the kids in there in the winter cause there are so many gaps ......

although the fact i dont have the back seat in there isnt an issue with her..

women!!

I started it. My son and I screamed, "It's alive!!!". Then we shut it down. :chug::D

Put the back seat in this weekend. Had to have one of the back brackets fabricated to fit in the rear of my tub. I'll have pictures later.

Dropped a new AGR steering box 2 in the jeep last weekend. That helped a bit with the slop in the steering. Today I replaced the Steering shaft between steering box and steering column. Wow what a difference!! Now driving down the highway at 65 is a pleasant experience.:)

Id be screwed. My winshield wipers are falling apart.

I leaned on her, talked to her, made promises that I might or might not fufill ...... then took a call from Willys Works saying that the 3.31 gears for my Dana 44 are in. I don't need to pick them up today, I can get'em on Saturday when I pick up the Dana 30 3.31's to go in the Dana 30 disk brake front axle...... It looks like now I'm going to learn how to install a couple sets of gears. The differential people around here charge ~$11,000 per axle to regear so it will be interesting to see exactly what all the fuss is about.

I'll do it for $10,000. Biggest problem with setting them up is getting the shims right. You'll need to beg, borrow, steal or make a set of set up bearings. I made a set from the old ones that i took out by grinding out just enough material from the inside of the bearings so they would slip on and off easily. i would let you use the ones i made but the last person that used them left them outside and they got all rusty.

$11,000 or $1,1100... I'm hoping that was a typo... :chug: :notworthy:

Has to be, they charge $200-$300 locally.

That's what it costs when using those special hyperbole gears.

I get all quivery thinking about the hand made ford 9" axles I could buy and still have money left.
:D

Where did that extra $10,000 come from? It'swas supposed to be about $1,000 per axle. A lot more than I expected. Naturally its a little less if I supply the gears, but not as much less as you'd expect. My Jeep guy said that the last two gear changes he knew about cost about $2,800 to have them done at the local differential shops in town.

Caveman - Setup bearings, interesting, never heard of such a thing, but a logical concept. Having never done one of these I'm not sure where easily removed bearings would come in handi. I do know this, the bearing set in my replacement axle are +2 and the replacement gear set are a +1. My Jeep guy, who has done hundreds of these ovr the past 40 years, says this will be an easy change as a +1 is almost meaningless.

Just for the record, what are you getting for $1000??

Quite a bit really and they don't go half way. They pull the axle, strip it down check for bent tubes and straighten if needed. After than new seals and about every other darned thing. You essentially get a new axle back withyour choice of gears in it.

Cleaned muddy paw prints of my passenger seat and console. Love my little pup. :D
