What did you do to or with your CJ today?

What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Prior to installing the cage I finished the dash wiring and added a couple gauges. Thought an hour meter would be a good addition and far more useful then a speedometer when comes to maintenance and trail use. I also added a vacuum gauge, what I feel is the most bang for the buck on-board diagnostic tool. Besides the ability to diagnose the valves, valve springs, and valve guides or a leaky intake, head gasket, or choked muffler you can also set timing and tune your carb.

I added a marine grade toggle switch for on-board air and a 3000 psi Parker ball valve for a rear brake lock.

Posi , I like it :notworthy: I want to add a Hour meter in mine also.

Terry, It sounded really heavy to me too. :dunno: Maybe the guys scales were not working right.
I do know that the glass body weighed a lot more than the steel one that came off. There is quite a bit of armor under it too.
But I still not sure if the scales were working right or not. I'll have to take it to the local scale and do it again one of these days.

Paul,

No big deal it is what it is........the extra weight keeps you planted to the ground!
I just had a buddy of mine weigh his CJ6 Resto......that's why I was quick to reply and I thought that was pretty good considering how much Iron was in there.......On my new build I'm trying to keep it on a diet...I just had my Spring guy build me set up springs and once its done I will weigh the sprung weight only and have him build the springs to carry that..............Much better than guessing how much it will or will not weigh and end up having to replace or add leaves.

Terry, are you using a company we would know ie. Alcan, Denver ect. or are you using a small custom shop?

Paul,

Talked with both Alcan & Deaver several times both good people, but some really different approaches to spring manufacturing!
Deaver got interested in the project and I finally got them on board to build a spring like I wanted but of course with there full input ,engineering & expertise. The setup springs , should be here today........so I can start making sparks soon.
I'll shoot you some pictures and e-mail them to you once I get moving........

So, I just started piling tools and :dung: in my Jeep to clean out my daily. That jealous little 4Runner has decided she needed a new tire (which blew on my way home Monday night) and a brake job this week... so Ms. Pearl Black will have to wait a bit on her repairs. UUghhh.:(

started a brake job on mine, put on the vacuum booster and had to take the dash apart to adjust the brake light switch [holy :dung:] what a mess back there.I never thought I would have to work so hard on a job so small.

It's funny how with these Jeeps a job you think will be no big deal can snowball into a major pain in the a@@

Took the seats out and sent them to the Upholstery shop... hopefully it will be done in a week or so.. Im excited its the first thing that im doing to my jeep that will stand it out from the rest and show the pride i have from being a Veteran, and the Respect i have for our POW and MIA servicemen and women.

Whatcha' doing with the seats? Using some sort of Patriotic themed upholstery? or adding embroidered logos?

Can't wait to see what that looks like.

Removed the front diff cover. Got about a cup of Yohoo chocolate drink drain into the pan, and found this blob of brown stuff that actually came out in one piece. Miraculously, no metal chips or flakes. No scars on the gear teeth. :chug: On with the resto.

well they arent the original seats it looks like the PO got them from a honda or whatever... but the theme im going with for my jeep is to make it a rolling POW MIA memorial.

The seats are going to be high quality vinyl, with cloth inlays and on the back rest where the shoulders will rest on the passenger seat is getting POW and the drivers seat is getting MIA and on the back of the driver seat will be POW and the passengers back will be MIA.. That way when you look through the windshield you will read in correct order POW MIA and when behind it and the tops off you will read in order POW MIA. and everything is going to be black even the embroidery. and its all getting baseball stitched

i want to keep it simple and subtle. i figure with the rest of the mods im doing if i add a few little trees ill make quite the forest. instead of going huge and overwhelming it..

Sounds like a plan... Am a big fan of Black, myself. Let me know if you need any custom decals or a tag for the front to finish it off...
