What did you do to or with your CJ today?
I don't know which had them and which didn't but I have seen a few available lately. I picked mine up from a local friend who always finds parts. I just don't know how.

Good to have a friend like that..:)

"The box", too big to call glove box too small to call trunk, something to lean on and screw cup holders to. This one also holds the cheap marine FM/SD/USB playing radio and the least expensive CB currently available in this country.:D

Had to raise this one 2" to clear the CB coax, Anybody see a 90* plug for the radio plug in. frees up 3 or 4 " if I can find one. Filled in a bunch of holes.

Speaking of holes, the floorboard holes that accept the electrical cap/plug if you so choose? are 1 1/16" holes. the caps are designed to fit in a 1 1/6" hole commonly found in any J box. I have not been able to find a 1 1/16" step drill, hole saw or knock out punch so far. This is surprising. I wanted to use a couple of these plugs in the box bottom and still am but will use silicone to hold as well as seal them.

Have plans for new stainless steel box with rounded corners. but that's gonna keep , got a bit burned out on sheet metal with the fender notch. So this one gets cleaned up and painted.

I have to choose a color, Black is kind of boring red maybe, goes with bumpers and sport bar padding. I have some urethane primer that is kind of tan, almost chocolate chip camo tan, going to use that anyway so will wait to see what that looks like.

I like it.:notworthy: Be sure to post up some pics when it's done and some installed. As far as radio antenna cables, I have seen them with a 90 degree end. I just don't know where to find them.

Ive had both sides tilt. I know the driver side tilts on the Laredo .:)

I have an old Levis edition out in my junk yard that has them. I've always been going to install them in my rig.

The mounting holes in the floor of my CJ5 are not mirrored side to side. The pass side is 3" closer to the center than the driver side. Just for grins is the driver side flip a mirror image of the pass side?:D

As for me, I did not look that closely before I installed the driver side. And I did not take the pass side off before doing so. I might be able to find a pic that might help.

Here are the pics

yep, they are different.

I replaced mine with a fixed mount so I could lower the Mastercraft seats a couple of inches and get my head below the roll bar.:D

I think I did a thread when I put this together. Ammo box with stainless radio compartment.

I spent the weekend "adapting" my $1137.00 "high steer kit" to real world fitment.Everything was going swimmingly until the brake caliper mount brackets halted all progress.

After attempting to attach the front disc brake caliper to this furnished bracket I realized the modification fun was about to start. Out came the measuring tape, the Sharpies and my DeWalt grinder. Not wanting to remove too much material from the steer knuckles, the caliper brackets and the bolt heads, the joy of install, mark, uninstall, grind, install, remark, uninstall, grind became tedious. Finally thinking I got it right, the problem of the disc brake dust shield arose. It would be impossible to mount with the supplied brackets. More "on the fly" modifications were necessary.
Thank God for die grinders and reciprocating saws! Another problem: the width of the dust shield metal upon mounting made it necessary to insert flat washers between the two caliper mount brackets otherwise the rotor rubbed. This then made the bolt heads a 1/16th too high and coming in conflict with the inside of the rotor. Again, tear apart, grind, reinstall.

Finally it all fit together. New spindle bearings, inner and outer bearings, new spindle lock nuts and washers and grease grease grease.

I had to leave off there. Next weekend: install reman power steer pump and Saginaw steer gear box. Then pitman arm, drag link and tie rod, bleed brakes and hopefully all will be well.
Should be fun!

I drove it to work. I stopped at 7-11 for some coffee. As I left the store, I smelled antifreeze.

I checked the Jeep, then noticed coolant dripping from a what looked like a very new Toyota Tacoma by which I'd parked.

I alerted the driver and he blamed my Jeep until he saw the puddle under his truck.

The 34 year old Jeep drove away as the pickup's driver called a tow truck.

Drove the CJ5 to work this morning, that was cool. Coming home in 100* heat, not so much. seemed to be running a little ragged. It struck me that I had not looked at the timing or the carb idle in more than a year. that's not a lot of miles just a long time.

Plugs looked good, nice tan/brown, timing at 14* before TDC reset at 9, runs much smoother and a bit slower. leaned the idle mixture about 1/2 turn and set idle at about 725 RPM. Much better, can't wait to see how it acts cold.

Funny how the large projects get in the way of the basics.:D
