What did you do to or with your CJ today?
For what it's worth, I also thought you were talking about nearly nine pounds (about 4 kilograms) of "keep the water out" automotive sealant, which sounded so excessive, I figured I missed something.

Well Babe, what's the point in being 5'10 and blonde with 4k in silicone, if ya can't make it work for you

Full and complete utilization of available resources... ;-)

Found out that I get just about the same gas milage if I stomp on it hard or just putput around town.

Heck, lets have some fun if it is all the same cost in gas!

Did something dumb last night, even dumber because I have done this twice.

arced my watchband on the battery connection of the alternator while checking spark plugs. welded a couple of links together and raised a couple blisters on my wrist.

:bang: :dung:!!!!

New ball joints. Finally went with Moog after disappointment with other crappy ones. Replaced inner axle seals. Por 15 the axle and generally cleaned up the drone end.

I replaced my simple toggle action battery cut-off switch with a keyed, marine grade cut-off switch.

I'm mildly worried that I've misplaced one of the two keys already.

-Jon

PS: I didn't misplace it. I put it with all the other spare keys. Summer make brain not good working. Me having remembering none.

Did you know Por 15 can not handle UV and needs a top coat for protection?

I'm not even going to bother topcoating it with anything.

POR15 is UW sensitive, true, but for it to fade it needs to be exposed to direct sunlight for an extended period of time. On a frame or axle that is UNDER a car that gets driven 3000 miles a year, and the rest of the time is in a garage, POR is not going to be anything but black in our lifetimes.

I haven't had any issues with Por fading under the vehicle. If it was exposed to direct sunlight I would top coat it.

Big day today. Got the Dana 300 , T-176 , clutch and flywheel removed this morning. Then got the engine pulled and mounted on the engine stand this afternoon. First time I've ever done anything this extensive. It was especially fun having my 92 year old Dad to supervise my progress. :bounce:

You have to keep us updated. :chug:

Tried some "sun yellow" rustoleum for a small rust/cancer spot in my door well where it is not really seen. Turns out it is too bright. I'm gonna try "marigold" rustoleum next. It might match my "wheatland yellow" a bit better.

At least I have some sort of paint protecting that rust spot now...

Removed the steering box from the Limited . Need it for the Laredo . Vickis Sable wagon was in the shop. They say its got a dead cylinder. Thats gonna hurt my Scrambler fund. :(

Tonight was a failure and a winner for the CJ.

- 6 months ago I hooked up a shift stick mounted crawl throttle. It was one of those expensive aircraft quality vernier control jobs with a red reset button. It worked well. except the cable was so stiff it would pull it out of 3rd. Plus the strain on the shifter bothered me so it was pulled. Last week I got another lighter weight throttle with a "T" locking handle light cable perfect for my needs. So, the throttle was installed, everything looked good .... until the test drive. The "T" handle pulled right off the cable ......EPIC FAIL! It did look good though.

Jumping right straight from my epic throttle fail to the front axle 3.31 gearing disk brake front axle. The pinion gear installed without much trouble. The carrier gave a little trouble. First the bearings were rusty so new bearings were installed. Where the original carrier was very tight, the new bearings made it far too tight. 0.003" was removed from both sides. It was finally loose enough to measure back lash which was at 0.012". I won't get into the small stuff, but after some work with shims its at 0.005". Suggested back lash is 0.005"-0.010", so we are golden! I'm happy.

Annnnnddddd after writing the previous post I got to thinking about the throttle problem. Sure enough, when I had the carb. rebuilt they put the chain I used to run the throttle in the wrong hole where it couldn't move at all. After moving the chain and fixing the "T" handle. Oh my goodness the hand throttle works. Once again, I'm pleased!

Tacked front bumper on and eyed up front spring mounts. Hope I don't limit my steering too much by out boarding. I guess we'll see.. :D

I installed new alternator and power steering pump belts - Napa Auto Part alternator XL 25 7430 ($15.69) and power steering XL 25 9465 ($21.49).

I paid extra for the ink that says: Made in U.S.A !!!

PS: I forgot how much I like my (also Made in U.S.A.) Craftsman 1/2" drive breaker bar. P/S bracket slid like butter.

Adjusted spring tension on the secondary air doors on my Q-jet.

The engine kept bogging down when I hit the gas. It turns out that the set screw had come loose and let the air door spring allow the air door flop open too quickly.

Found that my metering rod hanger on my Q-jet secondary was bent beyond usefulness.

Straightened it up and got quite a thrill when I floored it and it took off like a rocket even with my low gearing!

Got even more of a thrill when the secondary got stuck wide open and wouldn't throttle down...
