What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Picked up a hardtop. Traded my softtop for it. I think it looks better.
Also had to take my duralast battery back to autozone. Thing craped out in just over 1year. Guess ill invest in an optima next time around

Guess ill invest in an optima next time around

Do some research on the optimas. I've been reading that their not as good as they used to be since production went over seas.

I looked at possible candidates for a sudden whistling/squealing noise while the engine's running.

I can't hear it while driving; it doesn't follow acceleration. When the engine's RPMs are approaching idle, it's really apparent. It's intermittent during idle in neutral.

I wonder if the SR4 is finally giving out, but I don't know why it would whistle.

I've replaced the alternator and the water pump recently. The only other belt-driven bearing is the power steering pump, but it doesn't do it more when turning the steering wheel either slightly or hand over hand.

I looked for about 5 minutes, looked at the belt tension and they both seem fine. No airco or air pump.

Guess I'll pull the PS belt and see if it disappears. I wonder if my water pump is defective, I nearly always hear it when the clutch pedal is (morbidly ) depressed.

Took a Lomax 4:1 set to the shop whose doing my drivetrain.

I realized how much I really need her. She's been incapacitated too long. I need to update some signs downtown. That involves hauling a ladder and then transporting the signs to & from my Studio. Soooooo much easier to throw everything in the back of the Jeep than into a 4Runner...

Took my engine to the machine shop for overhaul. Bought a new windshield frame. Removed all the steering components and got started on springs. More springs tomorrow and hopefully end the day with a clean frame.

Tested my suspension... uploadfromtaptalk1407139389438.jpg

I extended my tailpipes to the back of my jeep. She runs like a top but she's a bit rich and making me sick:eek:.

Did you run them out behind the rear wheel toward the corners? If you go stratght out the back it might be worse, run them out the corners and things will be Okay.

I hadn't thought about that but mine run out the reqr corners and I have no trouble with exhaust fumes.

On thenother hand, when my gas tank is full and I happen to park at an angle leaning toward the right my gas leaks out my filler cap and straight down and onto (and into) my right exhaust pipe!!!!

Hasn't cought fire yet.

:wtf:

Mine originally ran straight out the back, it sounded great, but was awfull when it came to exhaust gasses in the cab area. I turned mine out, the sound changed, but it's a lot easier to live with. Yours must be close enough to the rear wheel swirl to disipate the fumes.

Mine runs out next to the rear driver side shackle, working fine for me.

I installed a new steering bellcrank pin, bearings, and bushing, and replaced the front wheel cylinders.

Then discovered that one of my "Selectro" lockout hubs is broken. I 'spect that will be a fun one to find parts for. :( Seems like everyone else has Warn hubs.

If the issue is one of the two snap rings you can pick one up at your local machine shop or big box store. Typically its a snap ring that breaks.
For parts, any of the following are the same Selectro hub: Sears, Western Auto, Free Lock, Dana Perfect Circle, 4 Wheel Dr, Wienand/Bestop.

If you need a full replacement go used or

Thanks! Yeah, I am hoping to go used, ideally looking for a junk one to clean up and get parts out of. But I guess I'll just buy a new one if I can't turn up any junk by the time the rest of the problems with the jeep are about solved.

The snap ring is missing. And the lip around the base part, that the cap locks into, is actually broken off in 3 places, such that no matter how I position the cap it won't work. Like someone was pounding on it, maybe. Or maybe that missing snap ring caused it. I am not sure. It's been broken since I bought the jeep, but there was a lot of grease leaked out on that spherical end thing (sorry about my redneck technical terms, haha, but I yam what I yam) that the kingpins go into, so I had figured it had just dried out and that cleaning it up and replacing the grease seal and regreasing it would fix it. But no such luck!

I am going to post something about it in classifieds once I have enough posts, assuming I haven't found one by then.

Do those hubs look anything like this: Mile Marker - Hubs

Yeah, it's the "classic locking hub". Not sure how many splines off the top of my head, and the jeep is about 20 minutes away at the machine shop on the farm at the moment, so.... I'll have enough posts to post a want ad soon though, I reckon. :D
