What did you do to or with your CJ today?
pulled the cheapo batt the PO had installed and won't hold a charge anymore. Worked on the D-ring shackles for the rear bumper and discussed the future front bumper for it. Just generally had a good afternoon with Dad fixing farm equipment and talking Jeeps.

Worked or probably better said reengineered the factory "Sport Bar" and I'm VERY pleased with the results.

installed a new battery... It lives again. Now to tackle that exhaust leak
.

Wire wheeled my hood hold downs to bare metal going to spray them with Boeshield t-9 and see how long the coating lasts.

Picked up a 78 CJ that had been sitting for a couples years. Going through everything to get it up and running properly. I started with a repair to a leaky intake.

Look at the coolant line in the pic below its coming from the heater core to the thermostat housing, it should be coming from the heater core to the rear of the intake. The engine wasn't cooling properly. The brake booster vac line is a mile long to the front of the intake, it should go to the rear of the intake behind the TB. This is a good time to re-route some coolant and vacuum lines.

New valley pan and rtv, re-routed coolant and vacuum lines. I moved the mechanical temp sender from the rear of the intake (where the coolant hose should be) to the thermostat housing. Placing it in the housing will delay the temp reading until the thermostat opens but its not a big deal because it's only one of three temp sensor that's in the intake, 1 for the gauge, 1 for FI, and the factory electric sender (not being used). I chose to use a mechanical gauge over the electrical one because it shows the temp when the power and engine is off.

What is going on with the power steering? There's a big heavy hose where a simple cap should be.

And the coil mount position?

The hydraulic 1200 winch runs off the PS pump. The winch is at full power at engine idle.

The coil is a high vibration coil that can be mounted in any position. The coil is an MSD 82222

Both you guys had good questions. I had no help at all from the PO so I had to go through everything to find out what was what, and why.

I'm surprised someone hasn't picked up on another item that doesn't "seem" to belong there, it was the second thing I noticed after the PS hose.

Thanks, heard of hydraulic winches, but I'm unfamiliar with how they work.

After building myself a small paint booth complete with vent fan, filter and LED light in the top, I did my first bit of painting. Lucky to have access to a media blaster at work and able to get the parts down to bare metal. Coated several frame mounted brackets including the pictured motor mount bracket with Rust Encapsulator and will follow up with Chassis Black.

Told my wife I was going to go out and play with my nuts... she doesn't seem to find the same humor that I have... I then said would it be ok if I sorted my nuts out?

Started it up and let it warm up and charge the battery a little.

Swapped out the passenger side axle ujoint. Replacing rose frozen Ujoints did wonders for the steering.

Fabricated ..... er bent some pipe, made some brackets to mount the front bar (behind the window), welded pipes to connect the front bar to the exist sport bar. This project is looking more and more better all the time.

We wouldn't know. We haven't seen pics. :poke::poke:
