What did you do to or with your CJ today?

What I did with my Jeep today:
I took it to the beach. There's a beach here called Huegenot Park and you drive right through the dunes onto the beach. It's fabulous during the week because so few people are there.

What I would like to do to my Jeep is convert it like the kids back home in Louisiana are doing.
They are running their trucks on Chicken Grease. I went to visit my daughter for a week and every time her friends drove up it smelled like dinner time!
I want to have the first converted jeep!

You should know by now that I dont have a Jeep yet... :( (Please give me a moment to stop crying.)

So I have nothing to kiss.

Pucker up buttercup, you'll get yours! :)

I'm pretty sure the rest of the site won't mind if you borrow a jeep for a photo shoot ...err..I mean..Pucker pic! :D

Yes. One boy is running an F150. One has an old International Scout 2. They said they wanted to convert my son's old Hummer (It's a real Hummer, not the Big pretty expensive Hummer...:0) but my son is in the Marines and doesn't want them to touch his truck until he's back.

They just go to restaurants and ask for their used grease. Obviously the restaurants are happy to oblige since they have to pay to have the grease picked up and discarded. I told them they should offer to take the grease off their hands for $100 every so often. It's much less than restaurants pay to have it removed.

Kids are so friggin smart!

Finally got round to reinstalling the factory AM/FM that I've had on the self for the last 3 years. The factory speakers were shot, so I soldered the pig tails to some el cheapos I purchased from Advance and it sounds just like they did in the 80’s.

Modified and installed a 95 Wrangler battery tray. Removed the brace and the two arms then welded the CJ support arms in their place. Now I have the option to add a larger battery.

While I had the dash apart worked on brighting the speedometer back lighting. The blue lenses were discolored so I replace the housing with one from a parts unit I had. Looks like I’ll be able to the speedo needle a little better.

All in all it was a good day to work on the Jeep.

Been working on the CJ a little bit here and there...Popped the old engine out and dropped a replacement later model 360 in its place. Easy right? Nope.
The new(er) engine has a few differences, so things happened.
-Some of the guages wouldn't hook to the new engine so
-The old dash got ripped out and new guages were being fitted, until
-I decided that the guages looked great, but the dash sucked, so
-I'm working with a guy to build a custom full dash replacement. The old wiring wouldn't work with it, so
-all the wiring got ripped out from the dash and the engine comp. and will be replaced
with a custom loom.
Lots of work just to 'drop in' an engine so I can keep driving the CJ while I rebuild the old engine.
Oh, I''m also do some preventative rust treatment and a little painting here and there.

Good thing we are getting a great bonus from work this year! That will be paying for a lot of the rebuild. Bad thing is we won't see it till Dec. 18th. :( And my bride is buying my new welder with part of it as my X-mas present! :)

mylittlecj5, lol. isn't it great how you can't just do one simple thing without it leading to having to do something else, and than something else, ect, ect. :D

Oh the joys of owning a cj.:chug:

Yea I think everything from the dash foreward is getting attention now. The original intent was to drop the engine so it could get rebuilt and still be able to drive the Jeep with the other engine. Then do the rebuild after the original engine was ready. Boy, how things change! "the best laid plans of mice and men..." and all that!

Is everything from the dash "rearward" ok or did you keep your eyes closed?

Well, I didn't kiss it, but I did sit there and drink a cold one. Still waiting for the bearing for the steering column. Maybe tomorrow.
Still trying to figure out if I want to tackle the front spring bushings or have someone do it. My jackstands are too short, and I'm not real comfortable with the idea of dropping the springs with just a hi-lift jack holding that thing up.

Sound wisdom on the jack stands and the high lift. keep your eyes on the Harbor freight adds for big stands. I can't remember what the load rat is on them but I can set on my creeper cross legged and not bump my head on the skid plate, and I'm a pretty big guy.

I could not have said it better, nothing is ever as easy as it looks, and all roads lead to another road.

I am off into the wilds of East Texas to look at a used best top for the CJ5 .
I "lost" the original about 20 years ago and swore I would never remove the hard top as long as I lived. The one constant in the universe is change. Some Chinese guy said that, I think it was Tommy Chong. :grinjeep:

Right now its OK, but I always have my eyes closed when I get into a mess like this!
