What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Transmission swap is done. Just enjoying the leak free smooth shifting along with some of the best weather I've seen this time of year. :chug:
 
tore front hub apart to get to wheel cylinder. ordering parts today. probably qtec. wheel cylinders and pads. also closed knuckle seals. anything else i might need while in there? thanks

Your lucky. My engine use to leak but the tranny and case were fine. I swapped engines and now the engine is leak-free but my tranny or case is leaking. Can't seem to win....:bang:

Oh I haven't even started the CJ8 yet , I was referring to the Laredo . I was really talking about the Transmission not leaking anymore. It went through a quart a week. :eek: I do still have the babe cover to go to be completely leak free. Motor mounts are next.

The CJ8 won't even move under its own power till Fall most likely. Two vacations and multiple camping trips were planned beforehand. I will try to keep the thread interesting till then though. :chug:

On a hill, the driver of a micro-pickup got right on my backside.

I let the Jeep drift backwards.

Then I chirped the tires as light changed and I scooted away.

At the next light, on my backside again - some people are slow learners - when the light changed I rolled back until I heard his horn.

We both turned and he passed me, scowling; then he nearly hit a Rita's ride, I mean "a parking enforcement vehicle." From the look on her face, if Rita'd been packing, hollow points might'a gone flyin' (along with her career, but never mind that now).

Yeah when you work nights you only get so many days to work on it. Not to mention family obligations.

Almost done reinstalling interior after front floor pan and raptor liner project. Can't wait to drive it again!
 
I did a slight steering adjustment today.

The CJ was solid up to 40 mph, a slightly unnerving up to 50 and uncomfortable at 65. We don't have smooth highway or surface streets around here.

Yesterday a buddy of mine drove it for a bit just to remember what it was like to drive body-on-frame.

He said I should back off the pre-load on the steering box. I did and psychological or not, the comfort I felt at at 65 this morning was nice.

I passed a woman driving a parked Washington State Patrol car on the freeway. She launched after I passed her, pulled up along side in the lane to the right of me and flashed a smile that - had circumstances been different - would have gotten her a free cup of coffee and a few awkward moments as I sat across a table from her sweating, stuttering and stammering.

I about 1/2 installed my 21 gallon fuel tank. The job should have been completely done yesterday, but I had to think on it over night and most of today. I believe I'm turning into a person that doesn't see the obvious as quickly as I once did. Of course having an unmolested jeep might help some. The rear support needed to have some holes drilled in the back frame cross member for the bracket. More than likely the original had the holes already but it is long gone.
 
haven't driven the CJ much for a month or so. drove it a bit this weekend and it runs like hammered :dung:.
back to basics, tracked down three vacuum leaks and replaced the fuel filter.
Learned that if there is a leak at the overflow on the fuel filter it sucks air and the carb runs out of fuel. Interesting.

I am sure we are all familiar with the rubber caps that are used to block unused vacuum ports on the manifold and carb. I am of the opinion, at this moment, that a short section of vacuum hose and an appropriate size bolt or screw to block it off lasts a lot longer than these neat looking little caps. replaced two of these and a transition that reduced a manifold tap to the 1/16" line for the vacuum gauge.

The first two things to check when your CJ runs poorly, vacuum leaks and electrical connections. To learn this is a major mile stone on the path to enlightenment.:D
 
The problem with doing the short line with a bolt is in Arizona you will fail the DMV visual check every time. The trick is to find high quality rubber caps and not to force one over a larger sized vacuum port nipple. Done that, been there many times, no fun at all, but ultimately easy to fix, especially after doing it a few times. "Oops and vacuum leak, time to change that/those port caps."

I drove the CJ from (almost) down town Seattle to Lake Stevens, WA via Woodinville to Northbound SR9 and back. I experienced no vacuum leaks, electrical problems, death wobble or LEOs, attractive or otherwise.

I did run into a motorcycle gathering in in the city of Snohomish. It seems every time I'm in Snohomish, there's some gathering of bikers.

I took a friend out to a local farmer's property and drove around a bit. We had a bit of fun. Had to use 4Lo at one point and get pulled out of a little swampy ditch I got myself stuck in. I was in the lead and we were driving through 4 foot grass at the time. Good time to test both our rides. We both have 78 CJ5s and were looking for an excuse to get off pavement.

I tried out a split camera view option on my phone and recorded this short video.

Finished installing my gas tank, well the mounting part anyways. My old/new fuel breather hose on the filler side is to short for the new tank. When I got the new/old hose it was to long and required cutting to make it fit, now it's time to get another hose ...... Darn it.

Worked on fitting a removable face plate to my yet to be reveled dash instrument cluster.

But, lost focus when Carl, one of my pet birds (an Indian Ring Neck Parrot) made a successful bid for freedom. This was one of my favorite birds, smart a real thinker. I almost bet he planned his escape too. The bird flew around the corner of my house and hasn't been seen since...... :(
 
Got my DIY Blue Torch Fab 1/4" AMC20 diff cover and started welding it up. Nice kit, a little grinding and a lot of welding. :). Bring on the rocks!
