. And a shot of where the ring gear was eating through the old cover from dents.

Hmmm? Dent?

Nice work! Your gonna be hate'n those allen heads after they get pinch'd shut from kiss'n rocks.
I would use button head-;)

Good idea LG. I ground off half of the hex heads along the bottom before, figured the aliens would be better - the button heads will be even better.

Funny, last night the dent wasn't all that obvious, this today in the light of day it's obvious there is a decent sized dents. Today I even see it in your text, it sucks to make such silly mistakes. OH well, it comes along with time.

After researching these covers it does look like the bolts don't have quit enough head space. Did you plan on using Allen heads or were you sort of forced to use them?

I used them due to space on a couple of the hole locations - most have room but the 4 by the seems in the cover are tight. I can probably fit button heads with a little grinder work,

Probably a good note for those of us that want to do this (I will). Set up the plates or I suppose they can be adjusted a little with a grinder to allow enough room for the stock bolt heads. Maybe put them in place before welding (I'd use old bolts so not to destroy the good bolts with excessive heat or an arrantly placed welding rod.)

Edit: It seems odd not to have a filler hole. I guess AMC20 's don't always fill from the rear like others do.

Fill hole is on the front of the diff.

The plates can't be aligned any differently to make room - perhaps bent a bit but grinding a pocket is the best bet I think.

If the edges were carefully ground, I bet a little room could be found. I first noticed how close the plates were to the edge of the bolt holes while researching the product so yours isn't the only one that came out a little close. Don't get me wrong here, I am impressed with the way yours turned out. This is just something I thought about even before you mentioned that some of the holes were close.

No offense taken HH. I think with between a 1/16 and 1/8 is all I'll need. It's welded on the inside as well so not issues there, between the two welds and the plate I've got 1/2" thickness to play with.

here's a shot post wire wheel and you can see the couple of tight ones. Again, a little grinder work and she'll be GTG.

Here is another shot of the parts showing the tight spots. The opposite side is the same so you need to split the difference and grind. No biggie, it's a fabricator kit.

This looks like a cool place for allen head bolts.

Exactly, if you know this is a problem a little pre-weld manipulating would remove the problem. These posts are great for that sort of thing.

Spent the weekend in Bethel Maine running some of our Western Maine Mountain Jeepers trails. Great weather and great terrain. Trail shots are of Dragons Tail which is one of the Jamboree runs - 9 rating. Awesome trail.

I'm guessing there's a good story.

I spent the day running a fuel return line back to the tank from the fuel filter. Might have finally gotten close to getting my Holley running right. Initial drive tests were good. Have to change plugs and see what they look like.
