What did you do to or with your CJ today?
If you (and I think you did) burned it top and bottom you will be Okay. I recently made a bumper with 1/4" steel and found that he MIG helped stick things together, but when it came to REALLY welding firing up the Thermal Arc stick welder made life a bunch easier. For a stick welder I love my old second hand Thermal Arc welder.

Yes-I ground a bevel in both sides top and bottom of all butts and double or triple beaded them. Welds are decent but didn't really get good deep penetration. Like you, I think it will hold up okay. If it cracks, I'll bring it to a buddy with 220.

Dropped off several items at a sandblasting place today .... Sport bar/roll cage, roof rack, tire/fuel can swing out carrier, and dash. There are a bunch of small areas welded that I can't get at to clean up welding spatter Sand blasting will also give the tubing some tooth for paint to stick to.

Found the weak spot in my new fender protecting bumper by sliding sideways off some wet ledge pinning a tree between my fender and the back of the bumper. Time to break out the hammer again - or maybe the cutoff wheel!

Ouch, Wooly!

That blows. Time to break out the hammer, dolly and spoons. From the pics, it doesn't look like it's beyond repair.

Wooly - had some friends wheeling last weekend said it was greasy making everything challenging. Look at the bright side, if that wet ledge had a huge drop off the side your bumper would have saved you. :D

Leave it and paint over it. Chicks dig scars.

Replaced my battery after mine went absolutely dead. Had me worried and thinking something more detrimental had gone wrong.

Having once had a similar mishap, I would suggest getting some body and fender tools and doing it yourself and at least get it as close as you can. After all it is a Jeep and you might as well have fun with it. When I mangled mine at that location, I went the saw route and regretted it later, I have since purchased two more right side fenders, plus one on the left. Those replacements are a bear to fit also.

I drove the CJ to work again today. At 05:15 am, on a bridge that separates my home from down town Seattle, I was wondering how long the unusually warm, dry weather will last - engine purring w/o a hint of bump steer - not enjoying the idea of putting the skins back on, but thankful I don't live in triple digit temperatures.

It's been 1000 miles since anything broke or needed adjustment. I should probably look it over next Saturday because 1000 miles w/o so much as a turn of a screw driver is just plain spooky. :)

Hey Wooly,

I say keep it like it is. It gives your CJ character. The clearcoat on my hood has been pealing off, and I thought about repainting it, but now I think it looks good.

Thanks guys - I do think I'll just bang it back into shape as best I can since I can't bring myself to cut em. Thinking about bending and running a piece of pipe on the inside of the fender along the top edge and connecting it to the post on my bumper. Maybe I could just stop running into stuff

Spent the afternoon replacing a front unjoint with two broken cups.

Dam Wooly, That's quite a scar. Did you do that here in Embden? If you did, I guess I missed it. A good time was had by all.

Yup - we took a run at the shale trail Sunday morning. Bottom went well - only winched once - top was a little tougher. There's a sharp left right turn with a cross sloped ledge step that tossed me into the trees on my third or fourth attempt. Yes - it was a great weekend - good to see you!

Went to a car show on the 4th. They were all looking shiny & spiffy except one. It was an old 40's pickup without improvements and had a petina look. Seat was raggedy but they had laid it out as a total work truck. Old gun on a rack, nicely folded wool blankets laid over the seats and work gloves and tools laid out. I think it got more attention than anything because it looked cool.

Ah changed the ohl an rotated the tahrs.

Finish my fender repair and figured I might as well fix the rest of the past few years trail scars and give her a fresh coat of flat khaki and black - now for a stogie and s beer on my last day of vacation!

Looks really good!

Always love the Khaki/Desert Tan color and would love to paint mine that way but my family is heart set on the black. Oh well...
