Heres some cleaning photos. Pre check and clean before sending to machine shop for hot tanking...

Sweet I love engine builds

Nice!! I also would like to pick up a 360 and slowly go thru it like this. Then swap the AMC 304 out for it.

We'll see how "slowly" I can do it... Already have a email into the machine shop for the balance & Blueprint of lower rotating assembly, and have upper components all chosen and in the cart on summit.com... lol

Now that I have it, I'm itching to see / hear it in the CJ...

Cut the hole in the firewall for the new heater motor upgrade...

Measured 84 times, drilled once. Looks like it came out perfect.

Interested in this...

What are you using for a guide on this mod? Old forum post or write up else where etc?

When I swapped motors while the heater box was completely disassembled, the hole in the firewall was just right - but I removed a bracket that was just sorta Hangin around the motor housing by spring tension......

I’m into this too...keep us posted on how...thnx

I'm taking photos and plan on doing a write up here.

My motor is obviously bigger than your motor...

Story of my life........

Now it’s making me wonder if I got the correct one. Part number was right - at the risk of sounding weird - what’s the diameter of yours? Motor.....

LMAO

I had to open my CJ firewall to get the Chevy blazer motor in, I haven’t checked the YJ body yet....

This was a YJ tub. My luck dictates I got the wrong motor. LOL

The YJ used a more powerful blower motor as I know some people have just used the YJ motor for the upgrade. Ao that probably explains it

First off… it sounds very weird.

The upgrade that I'm following calls for the '73 Blazer blower motor. The stock motor on my CJ7 was 2 5/8" while the upgrade motor is 3 1/8" outside diameter. The hole in my tub was 3". I used a 3 5/8" hole saw yielding 1/4" clearance all the way around. It did connect the hole for the motor and the one for the positive electrical connection in the firewall. I've got it mounted to the lower heater unit backplate and am about ready to do a test fit. I'll let you know how it goes.

From what I've read, everyone that has done this upgrade raves about the greater amount of heat it puts out.

There is some discrepancy on the motor shaft length and how it fits to the squirrel cage. I'm using Napa BK 6551039. It fits to the squirrel cage perfectly. Didn't really want to get into shaft size here… but you asked.

Question… Did you RTV the motor flange to the backplate? There is a sliver of daylight… not sure it matters here and it wasn't sealed before.

No - I didn’t use any sealant - may check that. But I do remember the heater motor I took out was larger than 2 5/8 for sure - and the new Blazer motor was the same dia with the exception of the presses on “collar”. Took that off and it fit the existing hole with maybe a 1/16” clearance all the way around. That may have been a YJ blower motor I took out.

But I did take great effort to order the correct Blazer part number.....

I was wondering about that collar myself. It will still slide on after passing the blower motor through the firewall. I was wondering if its greater mass influenced the magnetic field of the motor. Just can't figure out what it was designed to do.

After test fitting, it looks like all is now well on the CJ tub.
