Just a few. I alway say I'm going to take pictures and document stuff like this and always get in a hurry and forget.

Transmission before teardown

This is the inside rear of the case before reassembly. At first I thought a gear was rubbing the case, but when I got it back together, there's no way the gears could have been rubbing the case. Still at a loss in that one.

Unfortunately no pictures of these finished Transmission , but it was an ordeal finishing the rebuild...I bought a rebuild kit 2nd hand that was supposed to fit my exact T-18 ('79 CJ), but had the wrong input bearing. Ordered the correct bearing and busted 2 bearing retainers before I figured out the snap ring on the new bearing was too big and swapped it out for the old one.

Here's a pic of the 2.46 low range gears in the Dana 20 .

Sweet, wonder if the shinny stuff was machining marks

Would be interesting to see if similar cases had the same marks. I bet it was a marching process - casting may have been a little thick there.....

Changed my fuel tank fill and vent hoses…

Look at the cracks…!!! Best check 'em boys…

Did mine during reassembly...... good catch

It's possible. Is very smooth and uniform. I was just relieved the gears weren't eating the case. Would be very interesting to see. Who wants to volunteer to open their T-18 up and look?lol

Thanks, could be machining marks, idk.

Good luck, sir. Hopefully studying will pay off

Thank you... Well, after 15 minutes running on the treadmill, my heart rate only got to 109. They looked at the screen and said, "We're looking at a 20 year old. This isn't normal." They decided to shoot me with the stuff to dilate my blood vessels so they could take the pictures they needed rather than running me another half hour on the treadmill trying to get to 133.

I'm still a mess, but the heart is, at least, strong...

Nicely done.

Got to drive the CJ today for the 1st time in ~6 months!

Rebuild Transmission has done great so far. Quieter, and shifts smoother than it ever has.

Wow! I bet that was a great feeling. Congratulations

Finally tracked down my “timing issue”. Turns out I threw a rod! No wonder I couldn’t get it running smoothly!! Lesson learned. Compression test is your friend.
